Very predictable result in Vitoria where eighth ranked Spanish Baskonia (16-15) beat 17th ranked German ALBA Berlin (9-22) 93-87 on Tuesday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Baskonia made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Darius Thompson (193-1995, college: WKU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 assists and 4 steals. Estonian center Maik-Kalev Kotsar (211-1996, college: S.Carolina) helped adding 23 points and 10 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). At the losing side point guard Maodo Lo (191-1992, college: Columbia) responded with 15 points and 4 assists and New Zealand center Yannick Wetzell (206-1996, college: SDSU) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Five ALBA Berlin players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Baskonia maintains eighth place with 16-15 record, which they share with Zalgiris. Defending German champion ALBA Berlin keeps the seventeenth position with 22 games lost. Baskonia will meet at home higher ranked Fenerbahce (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. ALBA Berlin will play against Barca (#3) in Barcelona and hope to secure a win.
