Round 9: BC Pharmaserv Marburg defeat group leader SBS Ostrava

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Czech SBS Ostrava (1-5) on the court of second ranked German BC Pharmaserv Marburg on Wednesday night. Visitors were rolled over by BC Pharmaserv Marburg 86-48. BC Pharmaserv Marburg maintains second place in Group B with 5-2 record behind leader Piestanske C. SBS Ostrava lost fourth consecutive game. They still keep top position with five games lost. They share it with Spirou. BC Pharmaserv Marburg are looking forward to face league's leader Zabiny Brno on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. SBS Ostrava will have a break next round.
One of the most interesting games of round 9 was a derby match between two teams from Czech Republic. Fourth ranked Slovanka MB won against host Chomutov (4-4) 62-55. American power forward Sherise Williams (191-93, college: Mississippi St., agency: Gamble Sports Management) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and Katerina Bartonova chipped in 7 points and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was forward Tereza Vorlova (186-86) with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Slovanka MB maintains fourth place in Group A with 1-5 record. It was Chomutov's third loss in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the third position with four games lost. Slovanka MB will play against bottom-ranked UBI Graz (#5) at home in the next round. Chomutov will have a break next round.
An interesting game for Czech Zabiny Brno (6-1) which played road game in Charleroi against second-best Belgian Spirou Ladies Charleroi (1-5). First ranked Zabiny Brno had an easy win 102-56. Michaela Vackova nailed 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Sofie Hendrickx came up with 12 points and 8 rebounds for Spirou Ladies Charleroi in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Zabiny Brno maintains first place in Group B with 6-1 record which they share with defeated Spirou Ladies Charleroi. Spirou Ladies Charleroi lost fourth consecutive game. They still keep top position with five games lost. They share it with SBS Ostrava. Zabiny Brno will meet at home league's second-placed BC Pharmaserv Marburg in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Spirou Ladies Charleroi will have a break next round.
Bottom-ranked Austrian UBI Graz is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their sixth consecutive match to second ranked Belgian Kangoeroes (6-1) 84-64. The best player for the winners was Jessica Lindstrom who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 16 rebounds. Kangoeroes have a solid series of four victories in a row. They used an opportunity after Piestanske C. lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position in Group A. Defending Austrian champion UBI Graz still closes the standings with six games lost. Kangoeroes' next round opponent will be league's leader Piestanske C. in Piestany and it will be for sure the game of the week. UBI Graz will play on the road against Slovanka MB (#4) in Vodochody and hopes to get finally their first victory.

The most impressive performance of 9th round was 19 points by Klara Krivankova of Zabiny Brno.

UBI Graz - Kangoeroes 64-84

Bottom-ranked Austrian UBI Graz is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their sixth consecutive match to second ranked Belgian Kangoeroes (6-1) 84-64. Kangoeroes forced 21 UBI Graz turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists.
