Greece is the champion!!! - Aug 2, 2015

The Greek NT bet the Turkish NT with 64-61 and is at the top of Europe in the European Championship U18 held in Volos, Greece.
An amazing comeback in the last five minutes and with great defense over the best Turkish player (Korkmaz) who remain in the 15 points and basically pointless for more than 13 minutes, and with the MVP of the tournament Vasileios Charalampopoulos (206-SF-97, agency: Delta) in an amazing game together with the Greek center Georgios Papagiannis (214-C-97) (both of them belong to the top five players in Europe) helped their team to finally come back and won the European trophy fora second time in the history of the competition (the first time was back in 2008).

About the game now, the Turkish NT was much better in the first three periods where it outcomes to a -7 points for the Greek NT. The Turkish NT played much better than the game which took place a week ago (where the Greek beat them with 25 points difference) and were controlling the game having a domination in both edges of the court. The game was turning bad for the Greeks and 2.20' before the end of the third period the score went up to +10 for the Turks, 38-48, closing the game to 41-48 with Vasileios Charalampopoulos and Georgios Papagiannis scoring another three points.

The fourth and most crucial period though the young talents of Coach Papatheodorou showed character and with solid defense balanced the game to 48-48, 6.49' to the end keeping the Turkish NT to zero points for nearly four minutes. Taskiran's two consecutive three pointers changed a bit the climate for the Turks but Vasileios Charalampopoulos and Skoulidas answered back with the same way and balanced the game to 54-54, 4.35' to the end. Taskiran missed the shot for Turks and the Greek NT took the lead for the first time from the beginning with Miledijevic's three pointer. Taskiran took it personally but he failed to score in the next three offenses, before Ulcer scored the two free throws to balance the game to 57-57 with 2.35' to the end. Georgios Papagiannis dunk though gave the signal for the great victory, Korkmaz became the fatal player missing the two most crucial offenses (but the defense of Skoulidas over the Turkish star was awesome) of the game and the MVP of the game Vasileios Charalampopoulos show no mercy and score both free throws to increase the deficit to 61-57, 17 seconds to the end of the game. The Turks reacted and with Taskiran cut the deficit to 61-59, 10 seconds to the end. Deplores missed the one of two free throws, 9 seconds to the end, but he committed the foul so as to avoid the three pointer. The Turks brought the score to its minimum (62-61) 6 seconds to the end. Vasileios Charalampopoulos gave an end to the epilogue scoring both his free throws to bring the score to 64-61 and then Mouratos very smart did the foul to Korkmaz to missed both of them and to leave the final score to 64-61

Top scorers:
Greece: Vasileios Charalampopoulos 23 point, 8 rebounds, 4 assists in 40 minutes!!, Georgios Papagiannis 12 points, 15 rebounds, 1 steal and 3 block shots in 33 minutes.
Turkey: Korkmaz 15, Ulker 13 and Taskiran 12

The MVP of the European Championship U18 was Vasileios Charalampopoulos. The top five players of the tournament were Vasileios Charalampopoulos, Georgics Papagiannis, Furkan Korkmaz of Turkey, Edin Adic of Bosnia and Martinas Varnas of Lithuania.

Greece at finals, after beating the Lithuanian NT 68-58 - Aug 1, 2015

Great night for the Greek basketball since the Greek NT U18 beat the Lithuanian NT in the semi finals and will play against the top favorite team of the competition, the Turkish NT tomorrow night. The Turkish NT beat the Bosnian NT in an amazing come-back at the end of the game, 82-77.

The game between the two teams was very strong with the first period and especially the first six minutes to have a total domination of the Greek NT to lead the game with 12-3 before the Lithuanians coming back and close the gap to 14-12 in a poor game offensive wise.

The second period was more or less the same with both the teams playing good defense but not being able to grab any serious deficit with the home team being leading the game with a basket (29-27) by the end of the first half.

The same more or less was in the third period with the two teams traveling "holding hands" and with solid defense but very poor offense ending the period with 45-43.

The fourth and final period though the home team of Greece speed up and the Lithuanians could not follow, with the leading figure of the captain of the team Vasileios Charalampopoulos (206-SF-97, agency: Delta) and with Papagiannis dominating in both edges, Laurynas Beliauskas (189-PG-97, agency: Beo Basket) (the top player of Lithuanians) could not do much as he was all alone, so the Greek NT with very good offense and with 1700 Greek funs creating a very pro Greek atmosphere, took an early lead and they kept it until the very end with the final score being 68-58 and the Lithuanian NT playing for the bronze medal against the Bosnians.

MVP of the game was once more Vasileios Charalampopoulos with his 22 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists and 1 block shot in the 37 minutes being in the court. From a close distance was the Greek giant Papagiannis who offered 15 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, and 3 block shots in 36 minutes. The third player was Lountzis with his 8 points and 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal in the 22 minutes being in the court while Diplaros scored 9 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in the 24 minutes being in the court. Skoulidas scored 8 points and Mouratos scored 5.

From the Lithuanian NT, top scorer was Laurynas Beliauskas with 19 points followed by Sedekerskis with 13 points and 15 rebounds, and Birutis scored 10 points.

Top 8: France - Greece 59-67 - Jul 31, 2015

With an amazing Charalampopoulos and an awesome Georgios Papagiannis (214-C-97)s the Greek NT is among the top 4 teams in Europe as tonight the Greek NT beat the almighty French NT with 59-67 and qualified in the semi-finals of the European Championship U18 which is taking place in Volos, Greece.

The Greek NT was much better in the biggest part of the game and with a very good team-work and the first triple-double figure by one of the best players of his age in Europe, Charalampopoulos, the Greek NT with the two defeats in three games of the first round is now among the top four teams in Europe!!

Coach Papatheodorou found some crucial and accurate help by Miledijevic and Mouratos (at his more mature game from the beginning of this tournament) and Diplaros, while and at the same time Georgios Papagianniss prove to be among the top centers in Europe at his age as tonight he dominated at all edges his French opponents.

MVP of the game is actually shared by two players - both players of Panathinaikos as Georgios Papagianniss was the top scorer and the top rebounder with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Charalampopoulos scored 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists followed by Diplaros and Skoulidas who scored 8 points per head

Group F: Russia - Greece 57-61 - Jul 29, 2015

The host team of Greece succeeded to qualify in the top eight teams in Europe after the third consecutive victory in this second round of the European championship U18. The Greek NT with a solid and controlled game in the second half and with an amazing Iakovos Miledijevic (185-PG-97) (185-PG-97) in the offense beat the Russian NT in a game without any particular meaning as the Bosnian NT beaten earlier the Italian NT so the result of the specific game had only to do with ethical reasons and nothing else. Never the less, the Greek NT after a very bad 25 minutes where the Russian NT was leading the game with even as many as 13 points, strike back and with Iakovos Miledijevic as a leading figure from the parameter (19 points in total) helped his team to finally add the third victory in three games in this second round and actually "remain" in the fourth place of the table to play with the top seated team of the Group E which is the French NT after beating quite easily (at the second half too, the German NT with 15 points difference, 89-74) so we will have an "early" goodbye from either Greece or France in this European Championship which is taking place in Volos, Greece.

The MVP of the game was the Greek shooting guard Iakovos Miledijevic with his 19 points and 5 of 9 three pointers.
Top scorers:
Russia: Timofey Yakushin (194-PG-97) 15, Lopatin 10, Sopin 10
Greece: Iakovos Miledijevic 19, Charalampopoulos 12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, Christidis 9 points and 5 rebounds

It is worth mentioned that Papagiannis (the basic center of the Greek NT played only 16 minutes, and Lountzis only 17 minutes, having in mind the next most crucial game of the Greek NT against the all mighty National Team of France which consider to be the absolute favorite team to win the European trophy.

Group F: Turkey - Greece 54-77! - Jul 28, 2015

The unbeaten and top favorite team of Turkey enter into the game as the absolute favorite team to win the game against the "problematic" team of Greece but the Greek National Team like a wounded lion (with the two defeats against the Bosnia and Lithuania) show no mercy against the all mighty Turks and against all odds thrashed the Turkish team climbing in the third position of the Group F and now needs a victory over Russia to qualified in the Top 8 teams of Europe.

As many have actually begun to think that this team is not ready and is overrated especially after the not so good first round and gave her no chance to bypass the Italian and Turkish opponents, never the less tonight the Greek NT thrashed the unbeaten Turkish NT and with another victory over Russia tomorrow will qualified in the next round.

The amazing duet of Panathinaikos, Georgios Papagiannis (214-C-97) and Vasileios Charalampopoulos (206-SF-97) was once more magnificent with the tow green stars doing many jobs in the court and especially Vasileios Charalampopoulos who gave his body and soul for the tonight's game and was totally the leading figure in the court missed the triple double figure since he got tired and after the end of the third period remain on bench to finish the game with 15 points 8 rebounds, 10 assists while from a close distance was Georgios Papagiannis who ended the game with 15 points and 14 rebounds!!

The third period was the most decisive one with the Greek NT increasing the deficit to +30 and giving an early end to the game with the Turks not being able to react upon the great defense of the host team leaving the Turkish NT to just 54 points out of which the 17 were scored in the last period when the Greek NT played with the benchers.
The periods were 8-20, 24-42, 37-63 and the final 54-77. From the Turkish sight top scorer was Erten Gazi with 17 points most of which scored in the fourth period and when everything were finished for his team. None of his team-mates scored a double digit.

Greek NT: Skoulidas 11, Lountzis 9, Diplaros 9, Georgios Papagiannis 15, Vasileios Charalampopoulos 15

The MVP of the game was Vasileios Charalampopoulos once more as in 28 minutes in the court he had 15 points, 8 rebounds, 10 assists, 1 turnover and 2 steals!!

Group D: Lithuania - Greece 70-64 - Jul 24, 2015

The Greek NT didn't make it against Lithuania even though they had the upper hand in the game for most of it the last three minutes remain pointless and the Lithuanian team with Laurynas Beliauskas (189-PG-97, agency: Beo Basket) and Martynas Varnas (196-G/F-97) as leading figures played better at the end and succeeded a solid victory which will bring them to the top seat of the group as the last game will be against the Croatian team which is obviously of a lower quality. The Greek NT will fight for the second position as they need a victory over the Bosnian Nt which lost at the very end against the Croatian earlier today (77-76).

The many turnovers of the Greek NT and the poor free throw percentage (especially at the last part of the game where Christidsi and Charalampopoulos missed in total six free throws) were decisive for the result of the game while the domination in the paint by Laurynas Birutis (210-C/F-97) and Martynas Echodas (204-C/F-97) at the last part of the game was more than obvious, while the fight between Martynas Echodas and Christidis basically was negative for the Greek NT as it was proved at the end. Furthermore, the point guard of the Greek NT, Michalis Lountzis was in very bad shape as with 4 turnovers and losing some easy baskets (the one was an unsuccessful dunk)
did cost to the Greek NT.

Top scorers:
Greece: Dionysis Skoulidas (200-PF-97) 18, Charalampopoulos 16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 turnovers, Papagiannis 10 points, 9 rebounds, 2 block shots, Miledijevic 8.
