USA - Spain 87-71
USA managed to defend FIBA U19 World Championship title! Spain was better than USA in Day 1 in Bangkok, but the Americans were the best when it was the most important taking another Gold to their country. Nnemkadi Ogwumike (188-F-90) shined for the new/old champions registering monster double-double, 22 points and 20 rebounds. Samantha Prahalis (170-G-90) also had very important role netting 21 points. Kelsey Bone (196-C-91) helped with 18 points and 6 boards, while Shenise Johnson (180-F-90) added 11 pts and 10 rebs. In Team Spain, Leonor Rodriguez Manso (177-G-91) scored 21 points. Marta Xargay Casademont (180-G-90) and Vega Gimeno Martinez (183-F-91) contributed with 12 pts apiece.

Canada - Argentina 51-58
The Bronze belongs to Argentina, who registered nice 58-51 win today against Canada. As a reminder, Argentina failed in Semifinals against Spain, while Canada was defeated by the USA Team. Today, Debora Gonzalez (174-G-90) top-scored in victory with 14 points. Ornella Santana (184-F/C-90) followed her with 10, while all other players had less than 9 points. On the other side, Canada got double-double from Kayla Alexander (195-F/C-91), 18 points and 14 rebounds. Taryn Wicijowski (188-F/C-91) followed with 8 pts and 10 boards.

Australia - Russia 78-38
What a performance by the Gems today. It was a game for fifth place at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok and Australia totally destroyed Russia 78-38. Rachel Jarry (185-G-91) stepped up for the winners with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Tess Magden had 13 and Elizabeth Folake Cambage (203-C-91) drained one point less. Rosie Moult (183-G/F-90) helped with 10. In Team Russia, nobody had more than ten. Alexandra Tarasova (192-C-91) was the best scorer with 9 points.

France - Lithuania 65-56
France is the seventh ranked team at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok thanks to today's 65-56 victory against Lithuania. Naturally, position No.8 belongs to Lithuanians. Laurie Datchy (175-G/F-90) was a key player in France scoring 13 points. Aminata Konate (170-G-90) had 10 and Allison Vernerey (194-C-91) helped with 9 points and impressive 15 boards. Marina Solopova (180-G/F-90) responded with 21 points and 6 rebounds in defeat. Gabriele Gutkauskaite (174-G-90) netted 13 pts.


Spain and USA to fight for the Gold in Bangkok  - Aug. 1, 2009 
Argentina - Spain 49-67
Spain is still undefeated in Bangkok and they will meet defending champions USA tomorrow in the Big Final. As a reminder, Spain is the only team who managed to beat the Americans on this event (90-86) and it was in the very first round. Marta Tudanca Acedo (182-F-90) shined in victory today with 18 points. Marta Xargay Casademont (180-G-90) followed her with 13 points and 6 boards, while Vega Gimeno Martinez (183-F-91) helped with 10 points and 5 rebs. Andrea Boquete Manna (178-F-90) collected 21 points and 6 rebounds in defeat. Her Argentina will take on Canada tomorrow in battle for the Bronze.

Canada - USA 51-82
USA smashed Canada today 82-51 and they will have a chance tomorrow to defend the World Championship title. The USA Team will take on the only squad who managed to beat them in Bangkok - Spain. On the other side, Canada will meet Argentina in battle for the Bronze. Kelsey Bone (196-C-91) shined for the Americans today scoring 16 points. Nnemkadi Ogwumike (188-F-90) had 12, while Skylar Diggins (175-G-90) and Samantha Prahalis (170-G-90) added 11 points each. In Team Canada, Kayla Alexander (195-F/C-91) almost registered double-double, 12 points and 9 boards.

Places 5-8
Australia - France 71-53
Australia managed to recover from yesterday's shock and elimination in the Quarterfinals. Today the Gems blasted France and they will take on Russia in the battle for fifth place in Bangkok. On the other side, France will meet Lithuania for position No.7. Both games will be played tomorrow. As it was during the entire event, center Elizabeth Folake Cambage (203-C-91) led the Gems collecting 23 points and 8 rebounds. All other players in Team Australia had less than 10. France had only one player with double-digits in scoring and it was Medelome Medenou (188-F-90) - 14 pts (plus 7 rebs).

Russia - Lithuania 65-62
Russia outsmarted Lithuania 65-62 today in Bangkok staying in race for fifth place at the FIBA U19 World Championship. Both squads were eliminated in Quarterfinals, but now Russia will fight for fifth and Lithuania for seventh place. Anastasia Logunova (188-C-90) paced Russia to victory with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Ekaterina Kiryanova (179-F/G-90) had 13 and Anastasiya Loginova (190-C-90) delivered 11 pts, plus grabbed 7 boards. All other players in Russia had less than 10 pts. Giedre Paugaite (192-C-90) shined in defeat registering double-double, 14 points and 17 rebs. Marina Solopova (180-G/F-90) netted 13.

Czech Republic - Brazil 70-75
Brazil celebrated 75-50 win against Czech Republic today in decisive game for ninth place at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. Yesterday Brazil was better than Japan, while Czech Republic outplayed China. In Team Brazil today Tatiane Pacheco Nacimiento (180-G/F-90) stepped up with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Fabiana Caetano De Souza (195-F/C-91) had double-double, 14 points and 16 rebounds, while Debora Fernandes Da Costa (165-G-91) added 12 pts. Renata Brezinova (189-C-90) responded with 20 points and 12 rebounds in loss. Alena Hanusova (187-C-91) posted 15 pts and grabbed 8 boards.

China - Japan 76-59
China outplayed Japan 76-59 today in Bangkok ending the FIBA U19 World Championship as 11th ranked team. Naturally, Japan in No.12. Zheng Bowen (-90) led the winners today with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Shuang Zhao (188-F-90) also shined collecting 17 points and 8 boards, while Wen Lu (188-F-90) helped with 12 pts and 7 boards. In the loosing squad, Yukine Abe (-90) was on fire - 27 points. Kana Motoyama (-90) contributed with 14.

Australia - Canada 49-50

Australia is eliminated in the Quarterfinals of U19 World Championship in Bangkok. The Gems, who had perfect 6-0 record so far and totally dominated against most of their rivals, failed in the first elimination game. The Canadians did impressive job at the defensive end making a big surprise in this low-scoring match. Natalie C. Achonwa (188-F-92) was a key player in Team Canada draining 16 points. Actually she was the only one with double-digits in scoring. Kayla Alexander (195-F/C-91) followed with 8 pts and 15 boards. On the other side, Elizabeth Folake Cambage (203-C-91) was the only one in a game mood for the Gems netting 26 points and pulling down 10 boards. All other players in Australia had less than 7 pts.

France - USA 75-88
The defending champion reached Semifinals in style. After 5-1 in the first two stages of FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok, the Team USA outplayed France 88-75. France managed to stay close until the last 15 minutes, when USA showed why their are still main candidates for the title. Nnemkadi Ogwumike (188-F-90) stepped up for the winners with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Skylar Diggins (175-G-90) also shined with 16, while Kelsey Bone (196-C-91) added 4 points less. In Team France, Laurie Datchy (175-G/F-90) top-scored with 17 points.

Argentina - Russia 67-65
Argentina outsmarted Russia in thriller advancing to Semifinals of FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. It was very exciting game, decided in overtime. Andrea Boquete Manna (178-F-90) demonstrated the best performance for the winners today registering double-double, 18 points and 10 rebounds. Agostina Burani (189-F/C-91) helped with 12 points and 9 boards, plus Debora Gonzalez (174-G-90) added 11 pts. For the Russians Anastasia Logunova (188-C-90) delivered 14 points and grabbed 11 boards. Tatiana Petrushina (185-F-90) followed with 13 points and 7 rebounds.

Lithuania - Spain 47-79
Spain demonstrated magnificent performance against Lithuania today. With this victory Spain became the only undefeated team on the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok and it reached Semifinals. Cristina Ouvina Modrego (173-G-90) scored 19 points and grabbed 5 boards in victory, while Marta Xargay Casademont (180-G-90) was behind her with 14 points. Leonor Rodriguez Manso (177-G-91) and Marta Tudanca Acedo (182-F-90) helped with 12 points each. In Lithuania, Giedre Paugaite (192-C-90) responded with double-double, 15 points and 11 boards. Egle Siksniute (196-F/C-91) posted 14 pts.

Czech Republic - China 76-70
Czech Republic defeated China and it will continue battle for the 9th place on FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. On the other side, China will try to end as No.11. Katerina Bartonova (171-G-90) shined for the winners collecting 16 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds (bad shot percentage). Alena Hanusova (187-C-91) was behind her with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Renata Brezinova (189-C-90) helped with 14 pts and 5 rebs. Zheng Bowen (-90) scored 16 points and pulled down 7 boards for the Chinese. Wen Lu (188-F-90) ended with double-double, 13 pts and 12 rebs.

Brazil - Japan 62-56
Brazil celebrated decent 62-56 win against Japan staying in race for position No.9. Tatiane Pacheco Nacimiento (180-G/F-90) once again was the best player in her team collecting 20 points and 5 rebounds. Leila Zabani (180-G/F-91) had 14 pts and 6 boards, while Monica Da Silva Nascimento (189-F/C-91) registered double-double, 11 points and 15 boards. Group E
Czech Republic - France 58-73
France outplayed Czech Republic in crucial game for FIBA U19 World Championship Quarterfinals. Both squads, as well as Lithuania, have 3-3 record now. Unfortunately to Czech Republic, they have the worst score in this circle ending the Qualifying Round as No.5 in Group E. On the other side, France is third and Lithuania is the fourth ranked team. Margaux Okou Zouzouo (183-F-91) shined in victory netting 21 points. Medelome Medenou (188-F-90) also was good netting 18, while Hhadydia Minte (185-F-91) helped with 10 pts and 11 boards. In Team Czech Republic, Katerina Bartonova (171-G-90) contributed with 16 points and 7 boards. Renata Brezinova (189-C-90) followed with 15 pts and 8 boards.

Brazil - Australia 51-72
Australia advanced to FIBA U19 World Championship Quarterfinals undefeated. After 3-0 in the Preliminary Round, the Opals registered 3-0 in the next one reaching the QFinals as No.1 in Group E. Brazil failed to advance having just 2 wins in 6 appearances. Elizabeth Folake Cambage (203-C-91) once again led her team draining 20 points. Bree Farley (178-G-90) helped with ten. In Team Brazil, Tatiane Pacheco Nacimiento (180-G/F-90) answered with 12 points. All other players in this game had less than ten.

Lithuania - Argentina 57-61
Argentina outplayed Lithuania in the last day of Qualifying Round at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. With this victory Argentineans jumped to second place in Group E, while Lithuania is the fourth ranked team. Anyway, both squads advanced to Quarterfinals. Agostina Burani (189-F/C-91) stepped up for the Argentineans with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Ornella Santana (184-F/C-90) had 11 and Debora Gonzalez (174-G-90) added 10 pts. Egle Siksniute (196-F/C-91) responded with 18 points and 7 rebounds in defeat. Giedre Paugaite (192-C-90) and Marina Solopova (180-G/F-90) had 11 pts apiece.

Group F
China - Canada 67-75
Canada celebrated in the last day of the Qualifying Round in Bangkok. It means that Canada is the fourth ranked team in Group F with 3-3 record and they advanced to Quarterfinals. On the other side, China failed to do so as they have just one win in six appearances. Taryn Wicijowski (188-F/C-91) was the best player in victory with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Kayla Alexander (195-F/C-91) also was on pretty high level collecting 16 points and 11 boards, while Natalie C. Achonwa (188-F-92) added 14 pts. Wen Lu (188-F-90) was the best in Team China with 20 points. Shuang Zhao (188-F-90) had 19 and Cheng Dan (-91) added 18 pts.

Spain - Russia 70-54
Spain advanced to FIBA U19 World Championship Quarterfinals undefeated. Today in the last game of Qualifying Round Spain was better than Russia 70-54 for the first place in Group F with 6-0 record. On the other side, the Russians also advanced, but from as No.3 (4-2). Vega Gimeno Martinez (183-F-91) shined for the winners scoring 17 points. Doukole Ble Ossepe (189-C-91) had 14, while Cristina Ouvina Modrego (173-G-90) and Leonor Rodriguez Manso (177-G-91) posted 11 points apiece. Tatiana Petrushina (185-F-90) answered with 13 points in loss.

USA - Japan 109-68
As it was expected, USA blasted Japan registering the fifth win at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Japan. However, that is not enough for the first place in Group F due to loss against Spain in the Preliminary Round. The Japanese failed to advance as they are fifth ranked team with 2-4. Taber Chalee Spani (183-G-91) top-scored for the defending champions with 15 points. Lasondra Barrett (188-F-90) followed with 14, while Kelsey Bone (196-C-91) netted one point less. In Team Japan, Rateisa Fukano (-90) delivered 15 pts.

Group E
Australia - Czech Republic 92-65
Australia registered fifth straight win in Bangkok securing the first place in Group E before the Quarterfinals. The Opals now have 5-0, while Czech Republic fell to 3-2 record, but still with nice chance for the next stage. Rachel Jarry (185-G-91) top-scored for the winners with 17 points. She also grabbed 10 rebounds beside that. Gretel Tippett had 14 and Elizabeth Folake Cambage (203-C-91) this time helped with 10 pts and 7 boards. In Czech Republic, Eva Skutilova (182-F-90) delivered 14 pts.

France - Lithuania 42-54
Very important win for Lithuania, who now has 3-2 record in Qualifying Group E. With this one the Lithuanians made a huge step forward to FIBA U19 World Championship Quarterfinals. Marina Solopova (180-G/F-90) was a key player in Lithuania draining 21 points and pulling down 6 rebounds. Giedre Paugaite (192-C-90) was second scorer of the team with 10 pts (also had 13 rebs). In Team France, Adja Konteh (178-F-92) netted 13 points.

Argentina - Brazil 70-46
Argentina smashed Brazil in South American derby. That is third win for the Argentineans on FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok and they have a nice chance to reach the Quarterfinals. On the other side, Brazil fell to 2-3 in Group E. Debora Gonzalez (174-G-90) top-scored for the winners with 19 points. Ornella Santana (184-F/C-90) had 15 pts and 8 boards, while Kayla Kraft and Agostina Burani (189-F/C-91) added 11 pts each. Joseane Bazilio (177-G/F-91) and Leila Zabani (180-G/F-91) responded with 9 pts apiece in defeat.

Russia - USA 56-75
The Russians are no more unbeaten in Bangkok. The reigning World Champion, USA celebrated today against Russia 75-56 joining it with 4-1 record in Group F. Spain is still first with 5-0. Anyway both, USA and Russia, already booked a spot for the Quarterfinals. Nnemkadi Ogwumike (188-F-90) paced USA to victory collecting 12 points and 13 rebounds. Shenise Johnson (180-F-90) had 11, while Samantha Prahalis (170-G-90) and Skylar Diggins added 10 pts each. Interesting that in Russia, Anastasiya Shilova (185-F-91) and Tatiana Grigoryeva (-90) were the best scorers with 7 pts each.

Japan - China 78-70
Japan celebrated in Asian derby against China 78-70 registering the second win on FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. Now Japan is on 2-3, while China fell to 1-4 loosing a chance to reach the Semis. Japan's also failed to advance, despite there is one more game to be played. Yuka Mamiya (-90) led the winners with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Kyoko Ito (-90) had 17 and Kana Motoyama added one point less. Zheng Bowen (-90) collected 19 pts and 7 rebounds in loss.

Canada - Spain 56-72
Fifth consecutive win for Spain at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. It means that Spain remains the only undefeated team in Qtalifying Group F with 5-0. Canada dropped to 2-3, but they will also advance to Quarterfinals. Cristina Ouvina Modrego (173-G-90) paced Spain to victory with 17 points. Leonor Rodriguez Manso (177-G-91) had 15 and Marta Xargay Casademont helped the winners with one point less. Natalie C. Achonwa (188-F-92) almost had double-double in defeat, 14 pts and 9 rebs.

Group Places 13-14
South Korea - Mali 68-52
13th place on FIBA U19 World Championship belongs to South Korea. After poor 0-3 in Preliminary Round, the Koreans managed to grab two consecutive wins. Yesterday they were better than Thailand, and today South Korea outplayed Mali. The Africans ended this contest as No.14. Kim GaYoung (-92) stepped up for the winners with 24 points and 5 rebounds. Jeonghyun Lee and Hong Jin Cha followed her with 13 points each. On the other side, Team Mali got 17 points from Ouleymatou Coulibaly (-90). Aminata Mariko contributed with 11 in this loss.

Thailand - Tunisia 65-80
Finally victory for Tunisia, first one at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. Unfortunately that was the last match for the Tunisians, but anyway they avoided last 16th place. The host of this event is the only winless team in Bangkok so naturally they are the last ranked team (0-5). Lilia Inoubli (-92) shined in victory netting 26 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Zbeyda Arami also was on pretty high level collecting 19 points and 11 boards, while Khouloud Mefteh added 13 pts and 13 rebs. In Team Thailand, Suwimon Sangtad (-91) and Pornnutcha Sawatong delivered 16 points each.

Lithuania - Australia 53-69
The Opals continued with impressive performance in Bangkok. After 3-0 in Preliminary Stage, Australia cruised past Lithuania 69-53 jumping on top of Qualifying Group E. The Lithuanians fell to 2-2. Elizabeth Folake Cambage (203-C-91) once again was in a game mood netting 20 points. Rachel Jarry (185-G-91) was behind her with 15 pts and 11 boards, plus Stephanie Cumming (178-G-90) added 10 pts. Lina Pikciute (192-F/C-90) answered with 15 points in defeat. Inesa Visgaudaite (171-G-91) contributed with 3 less.

Brazil - France 48-59
It was exciting Day 4 at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. France managed to beat Brazil 59-48 so both squads now have the same 2-2 record in Qualifying Group E. Lithuania and Argentina also have 2-2 so battle for the Quarterfinals will most probably last until the last round. Alexia Plagnard (172-G-90) top-scored in victory with 15 points. Laure Datchy, Medelome Medenou (188-F-90) and Hhadydia Minte (185-F-91) netted 10 points each. In Brazil, Tatiane Pacheco Nacimiento (180-G/F-90) once again shined with 16 points. Debora Fernandes Da Costa (165-G-91) stopped on 10.

Czech Republic - Argentina 72-60
Czech Republic opened the second stage at the FIBA U19 World Championship with victory. With this one, the Czechs jumped to 3-1 significantly increasing chances for the Quarterfinals. Argentina fell to 2-2, but still with a chance to advance. Participants of Group E also are Australia, Brazil, Lithuanian and France. Alena Hanusova (187-C-91) paced Czech Republic to this victory draining 20 points. Katerina Bartonova (171-G-90) also had very important role collecting 18 points and 7 boards, while Michaela Stara (172-G-90) added 10 pts. Melisa Pavicich (182-F-91) responded with 12 pts in loss.

Group F
Spain - Japan 81-57
Team Spain remained perfect after 4 days at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. This time Spain outplayed Japan joining Russians with 4-0 record in Qualifying Group F. Both squads already secured participation in the Quarterfinals, but it will be interesting to see who will grab the first place in this pool. Marta Xargay Casademont (180-G-90) was a key player in Spain with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Second scorer of the team was Vega Gimeno Martinez (183-F-91) with 15 pts. Yuka Mamiya (-90) and Yumi Niwa (-90) delivered 14 and 13 pts respectively in defeat. Mamiya also had 10 rebounds beside that.

USA - Canada 64-50
The defending champions managed to beat Canada in North American derby jumping to 3-1 record in Group F. This is the first day of Qualifying Round and Team USA is for sure expected to reach the Quarterfinals. Canada also has nice chance to do so, despite they dropped to 2-2 now. Kelsey Bone (196-C-91) and Samantha Prahalis (170-G-90) combined 28 points and 12 rebounds in the winning squad. Nnemkadi Ogwumike (188-F-90) followed with double-double, 11 points and 12 boards. In Team Canada, Kayla Alexander (195-F/C-91) collected 12 points and 9 boards. Laura Anne Dally (-92) contributed with 10 pts.

China - Russia 62-67
First win for Russia in the Qualifying Round, fourth in total. It means that Russia remains undefeated so far at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. The Chinese fell to 1-3 and their chances for the Quarterfinals are way decreased now. Anastasia Logunova (188-C-90) shined in Team Russia with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Anastasiya Shilova (185-F-91) and Tatiana Grigoryeva (-90) added 10 points each. Ding Yuan (185-F-91) answered with 16 pts for China.

Tunisia - Mali 35-53
Mali managed to grab the first win at the FIBA U19 World Championship. It was a low-scoring game, but Mali demonstrated much better performance than the other African team. It means that Mali will fight against South Korea for 12th place on this event, while Tunisia will try to avoid the last one taking on the host - Thailand. Ouleymatou Coulibaly (-90) stepped up in victory registering 13 points and 15 rebounds. Laoudy Maiga (-G-90) was behind him with 12 pts and bad shot percentage. For the Tunisians, Zbeyda Arami (-91) had 19 pts and 10 rebounds.

South Korea - Thailand 66-55
South Korea outplaying Thailand keeping the chances for 13th place alive. The host of FIBA U19 World Championship faced with another loss and they will try to avoid last place tomorrow against Tunisia. The Koreans will meet Mali for position No.13. Lee Jeonghyun (-92) led the winners with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Ahn HyoJin (-91) also was pretty good netting 14 points and grabbing 6 boards, while Kim GaYoung (-92) added 12. For the hosts, Suwimon Sangtad (-91) delivered 15 pts. Charinee Napasri (-90) was the last one with double-digits, 10 pts.

Australia - South Korea 99-41
As it was expected, the Opals devastated South Korea ending the Preliminary Stage with perfect 3-0 record. It means that Australia goes to the next stage as No.1 from Group A, what was known even yesterday. They will continue in new group together with Argentina, France, Brazil, Czech Republic and Lithuania. Rachel Jarry (185-G-91) this time was the best player in the winning squad with 24 points and 5 boards. Elizabeth Folake Cambage (203-C-91) had 15 pts and 7 boards, while Alice Kunek (186-G/F-91) also scored 15. Lee Jeonghyun (-92) answered with 12 points for the Koreans.

France - Argentina 58-60
Argentina grabbed very important 60-58 victory against France in Day 3 of the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. Despite it was already know that these two teams, together with undefeated Australia advanced to the next stage, this meeting was important as the score will be transfered. So now Australia, Argentina and France will create a new group together with three best teams from Preliminary pool B (Brazil, Czech Republic and Lithuania). Argentina will start with 1-1 there, while France is on 0-2. Agostina Burani (189-F/C-91) led the Argentineans today collecting 13 points and 6 rebounds. Debora Gonzalez (174-G-90) followed her with 2 points less. In Team France, Allison Vernerey (194-C-91) was close to double-double, 12 pts and 9 rebs.

Group B
Lithuania - Brazil 69-65
Lithuania handed Brazil the first defeat at the FIBA U19 World Championship. Now the situation in Group B is that Brazil, Czech Republic and Lithuania have the same 2-1 record. Despite this defeat, Brazil is first due to best difference in this circle, while Lithuania is No.3. Anyway, all three teams advanced to the next stage and all will start with 1-1 record. They will create new pool, together with Australia, Argentina and France. Marina Solopova (180-G/F-90) was a key player in Lithuania today draining impressive 31 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Gabriele Gutkauskaite (174-G-90) was second scorer in victory with 12 pts. Tatiane Pacheco Nacimiento (180-G/F-90) responded with 15 points in defeat.

Thailand - Czech Republic 45-97
Czech Republic devastated Thailand in the last day of FIBA U19 World Championship Preliminary Round. That is the second win for the Czechs, who advanced to the next stage as No.2 in Group B (2-1). The host of this event will continue in Classification Round as they are winless so far (0-3). Renata Brezinova (189-C-90) once again shined in the winning squad netting 19 points and pulling down 6 rebounds. Katerina Zavazalova (171-G-90) followed her with 15 and Michaela Stara (172-G-90) delivered 11 points. Petra Zaplatova and Dana Kuslitova stopped on 10 each. In Team Thailand, Charinee Sangtad posted 10 pts.

Tunisia - Russia 41-93
Russia did not have any troubles to beat Tunisia today with huge 93-41. That means that Russia advanced to second stage of the FIBA U19 World Championship perfect. In the new pool Russia will be together with Canada, Japan, Spain, China and USA. Yana Panevina (-91) and Anna Ostroukhova (170-G-90) led the scores today with 13 points each. Veronika Dorosheva and Anastasiya Shilova had 11, while Ekaterina Kiryanova (179-F/G-90), Liubov Paskalenko and Anastasia Logunova helped with 10 points each. In Tunisia, Lilla Inoubli had 18 points and 5 boards.

Canada - Japan 73-51
Canada outplayed Japan securing the second place in Preliminary Group C of the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. That is the second win for Canada, after one against Tunisia. Japan is No.3 now and it also reached the next stage. These two teams will with Russia, Spain, China and USA form a new pool. Michelle Plouffe (-92) stepped up for Canada with 14 pts and 5 boards. Taryn Wicijowski (188-F/C-91) had 12 and Kayla Alexander (195-F/C-91) followed with 11 pts and 16 boards. The Japanese got 15 points from Yuka Mamiya.

Group D
Mali - USA 38-100
Huge and expected win for USA against Mali. All players in Team USA managed to score and the best one was Kelly Faris with 13 points. Shenise Johnson (180-F) had 12, while Kelsey Bone (196-C-91), Taber Chalee Spani (183-G-91) and Deron Williams (191-G-84, college: Illinois) drained 11 pts each. Mali got 18 points from Aissata Djibo (-90). USA ended Preliminary Stage at the U19 World Championship as No.2 in Group D with 2-1 record. Spain is first with 3-0 and China third with 1-2. All three teams advanced to the next round, while Mali goes will continue in classification games.

Spain - China 77-75
Spain escaped with 77-75 overtime win against China for perfect 3-0 record in Preliminary Group D. China demonstrated fantastic performance today, but at the end they failed to 0-2. However, both squads advanced to the next stage where Spain starts with 2-0 and China with 0-2. In the new pool also will be USA, Russia, Canada and Japan. Marta Xargay Casademont (180-G-90) stepped up in victory with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Doukole Ble Ossepe (189-C-91) had 14 pts and 8 rebs, while Vega Gimeno Martinez (183-F-91) helped with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Wen Lu (188-F-90) almost had double-double in loss, 24 points and 9 rebounds.

Group A
Australia - France 66-57
Second appearance and the second victory for the Opals at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. Yesterday, Australia was better than Argentina 75-51 and today the Opals outplayed France 66-57. Elizabeth Folake Cambage (203-C-91) once again demonstrated magnificent performance in the winning squad. She spent 35 minutes on the floor draining impressive 38 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Second scorer in Team Australia was Kerryn Harrington (171-G-92) with 10 points. In France, Margaux Okou Zouzouo delivered 14. Pauline Thizy and Isabelle Strunc followed her with 10 each. With this victory Australia secured position No.1 in Preliminary Group A. France will have a chance to do it tomorrow against Argentina. Both teams already secured Qualifying Round by beating South Korea.

South Korea - Argentina 63-73
First victory for Argentina in Bangkok. It is a Day 2 of the FIBA U19 World Championship and with this win Argentina most probably secured participation for the next stage. They are on 1-1 record in preliminary Group A, and the same numbers has France. Australia is on top with 2-0 and South Korea on the bottom. Nayla Kraft (166-G-90) was on fire today scoring 18 points. Ornella Santana (184-F/C-90) and Nadia Flores had 11 points each, but Santana grabbed 5 rebounds beside that. Ahn HyoJin responded with 16 points for Team Korea. Gibbeum Heo scored 14 and Park Hye Ryeon one point less.

Group B
Lithuania - Thailand 89-34
As it was expected, Lithuania was better than Thailand in Day 2 of the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. The host of this prestigious event was not able to resist against the strong Lithuaninas falling on 0-2 in Preliminary Group B. With this win Lithuania 99% secured the next stage and it will have a chance to reach second place tomorrow. Marina Solopova (180-G/F-90) shined for the winners scoring 20 points. Lina Pikciute (192-F/C-90) also had very important role delivering 19 points and grabbing 7 boards. Inesa Visgaudaite was third scorer and at the same time the last one with double-digits, 10 points. Ruemenchanok Doksaiyud delivered 11 pts in loss. All other players in Team Thailand had 7.

Brazil - Czech Republic 86-76
Brazil was better than Czech Republic today registering the second victory at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. It means that Brazil is on top of Preliminary Group B with perfect 2-0, while Czechs are together with Lithuania on 1-1. However, all three teams are still in combination for the position No.1 in this pool at the end of the Preliminary Round. Debora Fernandes Da Costa (165-G-91) shined for the winners with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Tatiane Pacheco Nacimiento (180-G/F-90) and Leila Zabani delivered 13 pts each. Alena Hanusova responded with 17 pts in loss.

Japan - Russia 64-83
Russia celebrated the second victory at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. Tatiana Petrushina (185-F-90) and her teammates outplayed Japan today securing the position No.1 in Preliminary Group C. Yesterday, Russia was better than Canada and it will almost sure end this stage perfect. Tatiana Petrushina shined for the winners collecting 15 points and 4 rebounds. Alexandra Tarasova was second scorer of the team with 10 pts and she also pulled down 9 rebounds beside that. In Team Japan, Rateisa Fukano shined with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Yukine Abe netted 2 points less.

Canada - Tunisia 87-26
Canada had a joyful second day at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. After yesterday s defeat against Russia, the Canadians blasted Tunisia with amazing 87-26. This victory most probably secured the second stage for Canada, who also has a chance to end Preliminary Round as No.2 in Group C. Kayla Alexander (195-F/C-91) was the best player in Canada today registering double-double, 13 points and 10 rebounds. Natalie C. Achonwa (188-F-92) also had 13 points, while Stephanie Macdonald added 9. Interesting is that all players in Team Canada had 4 or more points today. In Tunisia, Lilia Inoubli was better than the other scoring 12 points. Zbeyda Arami finished the game with two less.

Group D
Mali - Spain 35-89
Spain took care for another win after yesterday's big surprise against the defending World champion USA. Today Spain had much easier job against the African Mali. With this victory Spain secured No.1 in Preliminary Group D and of course the participation at the next stage. Laura Gil Collado (182-C-92) and Marta Xargay Casademont (180-G-90) Casademont drained 12 points each for the winners. Celia Menendez Antoli followed them with one point less. Aminata Mariko was the top-scored of this game with 14 points (Mali). Her squad currently has 0-2 and it will most probably stay winless in Preliminary Round.

USA - China 88-53
USA demonstrated its power today against China grabbing the first win at the FIBA U19 World Championship. As a reminder, USA faced with defeat yesterday against Spain and that is the first failure for the defending champion after 8 years. Now USA Team has 1-1 record in Group D and it will have a chance tomorrow to reach the second place, even No.1 with some options which most probably will not happen. Nnemkadi Ogwumike (188-F-90) led the winners with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Kelsey Bone (196-C-91) had 16 and Ckylar Diggins added 3 points less. In Team China, Zhao Shuang delivered 12.

GROUP A


U19 Argentina - U19 Australia 51-75
Australia had a joyful first day at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. The Opals outplayed Argentina with plus 24 for 1-0 record in Group A. In this pool there are also South Korea and France. Elizabeth Folake Cambage (203-C-91) was in a game mood today and mostly owing to her Australia celebrated this comfortable win. She spent just 17 minutes on the court collecting 20 points and 8 rebounds. Rachel Jarry (185-G-91) and Gretel Tippett delivered 12 points each. Argentina had only two players with double-digits in scoring. Ornella Santana (184-F/C-90) and Andrea Boquete Manna (178-F-90) netted 11 pts each.
The Opals won all four quarters today. The last one was totally the best as they created 12-22. Before that, Australia already made 14-point lead. The biggest problem Argentina had in the paint, where the Opals dominated. Argentina grabbed just 19 rebounds in total, while Australia had 36. The Argentineans also had extremely poor shot percentage from the field, what is another reason of this huge loss.
In Day 2 at the FIBA U19 World Championship, Australia will play against France. Argentina will look for the first win vs South Korea.

U19 France - U19 South Korea 89-47
France opened FIBA U19 World Championship in style. It was the official tip-off in Bangkok and France demonstrated magnificent performance beating South Korea with huge 89-47. Allison Vernerey (194-C-91) stepped up for the winners scoring 14 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Pauline Thizy (190-C-90) also had 14, while Margaux Okou Zouzouo (183-F-91) helped with one point less. All other players in France had 10 or less. In South Korea, Ga Young Kim responded with 12 points. Gibbeum Heo and Hyojin Ahn contibuted with 11 pts each.
France was better team during the entire time. Korea succeeded to resists only in third quarter, when it was 16-16. Even before that, France created 21-point lead. Korea faced with real fiasco in the last period as Allison Vernerey and her teammates stopped them on just 5 points, scoring 26 on the other side. France outjumped Korea today and also had much better stroke from the field. The loosing squad committed 20 turnovers, what was too much.
Tomorrow in Bangkok France will meet Australia, while South Korea will take on Argentina. These four teams are placed together in Group A.

U19 Thailand - U19 Brazil 45-104
Brazil totally destroyed the host of the FIBA U19 World Championship. The difference in level between these two teams is huge and this kind of victory was expected. It means that Brazil now has 1-0 record in Group B, where are also placed Lithuania and Czech Republic. Patricia Teixeira Ribeiro (177-G/F-90) led the scorers in victory with 24 points. Leila Zabani (180-G/F-91) had 15 and Monica Da Silva Nascimento (189-F/C-91) netted 11 pts, plus grabbed the same number of rebounds. All players of Team Brazil got a chance to play today. In Thailand, there was only one player with more than ten. It was Suwimon Sangtad with 15 points. Atchara Kaichaiyapoom stopped on 8.
The opening quarter sent a clear sign what the spectators can expect from this game. After ten minutes it was 13-23. Second period ended with huge 7-25 and that was just beginning of fiasco for the hosts. Brazil did not slow down until the end. After the breather they had another impressive quarter stopping Thailand on just 5 points, scoring 32 on the other side. Until the end they jumped to plus 59.
Tomorrow in Bangkok, Brazil will meet Czech Republic. Thailand will play against Lithuania.

Czech Republic celebrated in the first appearance at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. That was the opening game of Group B, where are also placed Brazil and Thailand. Thanks for well played second and third quarter, Czech Republic is on 1-0 record now. Renata Brezinova (189-C-90) stepped up in this victory with 16 points and 4 rebounds. Andrea Sladkova (186-C-91) and Katerina Bartonova (171-G-90) helped with 12 points each. In the loosing squad, Egle Siksniute (196-F/C-91) shined with 21 points. Giedre Paugaite (192-C-90) posted 12 pts and grabbed 8 boards.
Lithuania had slightly better first quarter ending it with plus 3, 21-24. After that moment Renata Brezinova and Andrea Sladkova stepped on the scene. They pushed up their teammates in defense, also doing pretty good job at the offensive end. Everything resulted with 22-12 and plus 7 at the half time. Third period was crucial. Czech Republic once again scored 22 points, stopping the Lithuanians on 17. Until the end the teams were leveled, what for sure was what Czech Republic wanted.
Tomorrow, Czech Republic will play against Brazil. Lithuania will meet the host, Thailand.

Russia grabbed very important win at the opening day of the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. Both squads showed their nerves today, what resulted with a low-scoring game. Anyway, Russia has a reason for joy as now they have 1-0 record in Group C. In these pool, beside these two teams, are also Japan and Tunisia. Ekaterina Kiryanova (179-F/G-90) led the winners with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Alexandra Tarasova (192-C-91) had 11 points, missing only one board for double-double, while Tatiana Petrushina (185-F-90) also helped with 11. Natalie C. Achonwa (188-F-92) responded with 15 points and 9 rebounds in defeat. She was the last one with double-digits as the second scorer was Kayla Alexander (195-F/C-91) with 9 pts, but including 14 rebounds.
Canada was better team in the first half. After ten minutes of the game it was 9-11 and later 22-28 for the Canadians. After the breather, picture on the court has changed. Russia improved a lot and mostly owing to Ekaterina Kiryanova grabbed 2-point lead. Tatiana Petrushina than stepped up scoring nine of her 11 points - including one of the only two three pointer conversions in the game - in the fourth quarter to steer Russia to the pivotal victory.
Tomorrow in Bangkok Russia will meet Japan. Canada will take on Tunisia.

U19 Tunisia - U19 Japan 64-85
Japan celebrated in the first appearance at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. The Japanese met Tunisia grabbing nice 64-85 win for 1-0 record in Group C. Beside these two teams, other participants in the same pool are Canada and Russia. Kana Motoyama was a key player for Japan as she drained 25 points and pulled down 5 rebounds. Yuka Mamiya follwoed her with double-double, 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Shiori Yodono added 14 pts. On the other side, Lilia Inoubli answered with 18 pts, missing just one board for double-double. Zbeyda Arami stopped on 14 pts and 7 rebounds.
Japan had a strong start in Bangkok creating impressive 11-27 in the first quarter. That was a real shock for Tunisia, who somehow improved after that. However, that was not enough for any better than minus 15 at the half time. Third stanza belonged to Tunisa 24-18, but they needed way more. Kana Motoyama and her teammates totally smashed them during the last ten minutes celebrating deserved 64-85 win. Japan scored 12 triples in this match.
Tomorrow Japan will meet Russia, while Tunisia will take on Canada.

U19 Spain - U19 USA 90-86
What a performance by Spain at the opening day of the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok. Leonor Rodriguez (177-G-91) (177-G-91) and her teammates managed to beat the defending champion USA handing them their first defeat in eight years. As a reminder, the teams are placed in Group D, together with Mali and China. The above mentioned Leonor Rodriguez top-scored for the Spain today with 23 points. She had pretty good stroke from the field (8/13) and was almost unmistakable from the free throw line (7/8). Marta Tudanca (182-F-90) also had very important role scoring 21, while Marta Xargay (180-G-90) helped with 19 pts. In USA, Nnemkadi Ogwumike (188-F-90) was better than the others collecting 16 pts and 8 rebounds. Chalysa Shegog and Skylar Diggins (175-G-90) netted 13 pts each.
Spain had magnificent first half. In the first ten minutes the Spaniards already made plus 10, 22-12. USA improved after that, but Spain did the same extending their lead to 46-32 at the HT. U19 China - U19 Mali 86-60
First appearance for China at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok and the first win. The Chinese did not have any troubles to beat Mali, jumping to 1-0 record in Group D. There, in the same pool are placed Spain and USA. Ding Yuan (185-F-91) led the scorers in Team China today with 17 points. She spent 24 minutes one the court missing only 4 shots. Li Xinyi (-90) followed her with 12 pts. In Team Mali, Aminata Mariko was pretty good collecting 15 points and 8 rebounds. Laoudy Maiga (-G-90) contributed with 14 points.
Mali was good in the first half. At the point of game it seemed it will be exciting 20 minutes until the end. In the first period Mali made 14-19 and after that China had 17-16. However, that plus 3 was everything what Mali did until the end. China drained 55 points during the following two quarters, what was too much for the African squad. Laoudy Maiga and her teammates stopped on 25. Anyway, China won this one, but Mali showed it can play. Of course, it will be very hard to beat Spain or USA in the next two games.
