Russia and USA to clash for title in Chekhov

SEMIFINALS
USA - Spain 80-65
Team USA reached the championship game in Chekhov. They knocked down Spain in the second semifinal today. Napheesa Collier (186-C/F-97) stepped up with 24 points and 14 rebounds to pace the USA to the victory. They will now take on hosting Russia for the title. Team USA raced to a 44:31 halftime lead. Spain pulled within 12 points at the final intermission. But the USA held their opponents to just 15 points in the fourth quarter and eased to the win. AJa Wilson (196-G/F-96) accounted for 20 points and 16 rebounds in the victory. Laura Quevedo (185-G-96, college: Miami, FL) responded with 17 points for Spain.

Russia - Australia 76-57
Russia outgunned Austria to advance into the World Championship Final. Maria Vadeeva (190-C-98) was unstoppable with 27 points and 16 rebounds for the hosts. Russia used a 21:12 rally in the second frame to take a 14-point halftime lead. Russia kept the Gems at bay throughout the second half and drove to the victory. Ksenia Levchenko (165-PG-96) posted 13 points and 7 assists for the winners. Kristy Wallace (180-G-96) responded with 15 points and 8 rebounds for Australia. Tahlia Tupaea (174-G-97) had 10 points in the loss.
5-8 Place
Canada - Belgium 64-70
Belgium outscored Canada to set the up the clash versus France for the fifth position at the tournament. Julie Allemand (173-PG-96, agency: LBM Management) was pivotal with 24 points for the winners. Canada eked out an 18:16 lead ten minutes into the encounter. Belgium however responded with a 35:26 run in the next two quarters to spur ahead. Canada tried hard to deny the deficit in the final period but Belgium held on to avoid the defeat. Heleen Nauwelaers (180-F-96) accounted for 15 points in the win. Bridget Carleton (185-G-97) responded with 20 points for Canada.

France - China 67-61
France outgunned China in the classification games for the fifth position. Marie Milapie (191-C-96) stepped up with 17 points and 8 rebounds for Les Bleues. France overcame a three-point deficit at the first break to take a 32:22 halftime advantage. They extended the lead at 13-point mark at the final intermission. China erupted for 26 points in the fourth frame but just sweetened the pill at the end. Mathilde Combes (184-C-96) accounted for 14 points in the victory. Xing Jinbo (181-F-96) responded with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for China.

9-12 Place
Holland - Serbia 90-60
Netherlands stormed past Serbia in the classification round. Emese Hof (190-C-96) stepped up with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the Dutch team. Netherlands dominated from start to finish. They accumulated a 50:28 halftime lead. Netherlands boosted the gap at 33-point mark at the final intermission and cruised to the victory. Esther Fokke (185-PF-96) chipped in 18 points for the winners. Bojana Stevanovic (180-PF-96) answered with 12 points for Serbia.

Brazil - Mali 60-49
Thayna Silva came off the bench to score 11 points and Brazil outlasted Mali in Chekhov today. Brazil looked solid defensively in the first half. They held Mali to just 14 points building a 17-point halftime lead. Mali improved offensively in the second half but could not overcome a deep deficit. Jennifer Calixto (189-C-97) and Gabriela De Paula (180-F-96) delivered 9 points each for the winners. Mariam Coulibaly (183-C-97) responded with 19 points and 18 rebounds for Mali.
13-16 Place
South Korea - Argentina 63-57
South Korea rolled past Argentina in the classification round of the World Championship. The Korean team piled up a 30:20 halftime lead. They maintained the advantage throughout the third term. Argentina nailed 23 points in the fourth quarter but could not avoid the defeat. Lee Juyeon (168-PG-98) finished with 16 points for the Korean team. An Jin (185-C-96) added 14 points for the winners. Victoria Llorente (184-F/C-96) responded with 15 points and 15 rebounds for Argentina.

Egypt - Taiwan 59-73
Taiwan outgunned Egypt in Chekhov today. Hsu Yu-Lien (177-F-97) stepped up with 15 points to pace the Asian team. Taiwan opened a 24:16 lead after ten minutes. They boosted the gap at 12-point mark heading into the fourth frame. Taiwan never looked back afterwards marching to the win. Cho Ching (172-F-97) provided 12 points in the victory. Nadine Selaawi (180-F-98) responded with 22 points and 7 rebounds for Egypt.
