China beat Italy in Group A. Tang Yu (188-C-99) posted 18 points to pace the winners. China grabbed a 21:10 lead after ten minutes. China recorded a 57:45 lead heading into the final term and raced to the win. Han XU (200-C-99) delivered 13 points and 10 boards for China. Olbis Futo Andre (190-C-98) answered with 18 points for the Azzurri.

Mali - USA 58-95
USA eased past Mali to open win count in Udine. Shug Sutton (182-G-98) stepped up with 19 points for the North American side. USA posted a 48:32 halftime lead. They went on a 47:26 run in the second half and marched to the victory. Megan Walker (185-F/C-98, college: High School) tossed in 15 points in the win. Adama Coulibaly (175-G/F-98) responded with 13 points for Mali.

Group B
Puerto Rico - Spain 42-74
Spain outgunned Puerto Rico in the first day of action in Udine. Umo Diallo (192-C-98) posted 12 points and 9 rebounds to lead the winners. Spain had to overcome a slow start. They trailed by four points after ten minutes. But Spain went on a 62:26 run in the next three quarters to seal the win. Iris Junio (185-G-99) had 9 points for Spain. Angelique Rodriguez (180-F-99) answered with 19 points for Puerto Rico.

Russia - Egypt 114-63
Russia breezed past Egypt in the opener. Raisa Musina (191-F/C-98) and Sofya Kornyenko (187-C-98) delivered 18 points each for the winners. Russia grabbed a 62:36 halftime lead. They added 52 points in the second half to cruise to the winning outcome. Maria Vadeeva (193-C-98) had 17 points for the winners. Meral Abdelgawad (181-F-98) responded with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for Egypt.

Group C
Latvia - France 60-69
France beat Latvia behind 21 points from Loreen Kerboeuf (178-PG-98). France dominated in the first half. les Bleues posted a 36:21 halftime lead. Latvia narrowed the deficit in the second half but could not avoid the loss. Marie-Paule Foppossi (184-F/C-98) had 12 points and 9 caroms for the winners. Mara Mote (160-F-00) responded with 17 points for Latvia.

Canada - South Korea 91-45
Canada dominated against South Korea to post the first win in Group C. Shaina Pellington (168-PG-99), Alyssa Jerome (185-C-99), Hailey Brown (185-F-99, college: CAN NT U16), Laeticia Amihere (185-C-01), Sarah Donovan (175-G/F-99, college: CAN NT U16) and Summer Masikewich (188-F-98) posted 10 points each to lead the winners. Canada led by a single point at the first break 12:11. But they went on a 57:19 run in the next two periods to clear off for good. Park Jihyun (180-F-00) responded with 13 points for South Korea.

Group D
Hungary - Mexico 111-67
Livia Gereben (183-F-99) posted 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Hungary past Mexico in Group D. Hungary enjoyed a 46:24 halftime advantage. They deposited 34 points in the third term to take an unassailable lead. Dorka Juhasz (189-SG-99) delivered 17 points and 15 boards in the victory. Daniela Sanchez (180-PF-98) responded with 16 points for Mexico.

Australia - Japan 61-66
Japan outscored Australia to open win count in Group D. Haruki Takahara (173-PF-99) delivered 12 points to pace well-balanced effort from the Asian side. Japan secured a 31:28 halftime advantage. Australia used a 20:13 run in the third term to surge ahead. But Japan bounced back in the final stanza. They went on a 22:13 run in the fourth period to snatch the win. Miki Sasaka (178-PF-98) and Izumi Abe (167-PG-99) delivered 10 points each in the victory. Eziyoda Magbegor (176-F/C-99) replied with 21 points for the Gems.
