Nakic dominates as Real claims its third ANGT crown - May 19, 2019
U18 Real Madrid captured the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament crown on Sunday with a 76-95 rout of U18 Mega Bemax Belgrade at Fernando Buesa Arena in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain. Mario Nakic (200-F-01) was the star fo the show as he setting championship game records with 33 points and a performance index rating of 41. He drew 10 fouls and made 16 of 19 free throws. Usman Garuba (202-C-02) added 21 points and Amar Sylla (206-C-01) posted 16 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Nakic's PIR total bested freshly-crowned EuroLeague Rising Star Goga Bitadze for the most in an ANGT Finals title game. Bitadze posted a PIR of 38 for Mega two seasons ago. Nakic's scoring total was the highest in the deciding game since Milan Macvan had 28 for U18 FMP Belgrade in 2007. Aleksandar Langovic (206-F), Aleksa Markovic (196-F) and Marko Kljajevic (202-F) scored 12 points each for Mega and Marko Brekic had 11. Markovic also grabbed 10 rebounds. Bemax started well with Langovic scoring 5 points as his team jumped to a 9-4 lead. Real turned up the pressure on defense and scored 8 unanswered points - half of which came on Nakic free throws. The teams parted ways at 20-20 after 10 minutes. Real took charge in the second quarter with Garuba throwing down a number of slams in a 4-22 charge. The boys from the Spanish capital rode Nakic and Garuba to a 33-50 halftime lead. Mega came out aggressive for the second half and - aided by the three-point shooting of Brekic - drew within 53-62. Sylla and Nakic helped Real right the ship and surge to a 55-72 advantage through three quarters. Mega breaks Zvedza's streak, wins ANGT Belgrade - Feb 24, 2019
U18 Mega Bemax Belgrade snapped U18 Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade's streak of consecutive Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament Belgrade victories with a 63-73 triumph to book its ticket to the ANGT Finals. Aleksandar Langovic (206-F) led the way with 18 points and 11 rebounds and Marko Andric (187-G) added 13 points for Mega, which will join ANGT Valencia winner U18 Valencia Basket, ANGT Munich winner U18 Real Madrid and ANGT Kaunas victor U18 Zalgiris Kaunas at the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four Vitoria-Gasteiz in May. Mega has now reached the ANGT Finals for the fourth straight season, losing in the ANGT Championship Game in 2017. The 2014 continental champion Zvezda suffered its first loss at the ANGT Belgrade since the 2010-11 season when it lost to U18 Beovuk 72. Vukasin Masic (190-G) and Lazar Zivanovic (198-F) both scored 12 points and Stevan Karapandzic (190-G) had 11 points for Zvedza, which had won 38 straight games over that stretch. The game was tight early on with Marko Kljajevic picking up 5 points and Vladan Music had 4 for Mega, which led 8-11. Lazar Vasic (186-G) answered with a three-pointer and a second long ball had Zvezda within 15-17. But Mega got a three-point play from Mihailo Musikic (210-C) to lead 17-22 after 10 minutes. Zvezda used three-pointers to stay close with Vasic, Nemanja Popovic (203-F) and Zivanovic all hitting from long range to make it 28-29. Langovic was able to pick up two baskets in an 0-7 spurt as Mega nosed ahead 28-36. And the advantage was 31-38 at the break. Langovic started the second half with a three-pointer off the glass as the lead grew to double digits 31-41. A Marko Brekic three-ball pushed the advantage to 33-46 and it was 35-48 before Zvezda held Mega without a basket for 4:30 minutes and Zivanovic and Stevan Karapandzic knocked down three-balls in a 13-2 run to pull within 48-50. And the score was 50-53 after 30 minutes. Masic converted a three-point play to start the fourth quarter and knot the game 53-53. But Mega punched right back with a 0-12 run including three-pointers from Brekic and Andric to go up 53-65. Karapandzic was able to get the deficit down to 59-67 but Langovic countered with two more baskets for a 59-71 lead and decide the game and give Mega the ticket to Vitoria-Gasteiz. Zalgiris defeats rival Rytas to win ANGT Kaunas, book ANGT Finals ticket - Feb 10, 2019
U18 Zalgiris Kaunas returned to the top of the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament Kaunas after it defeated Lithuanian archrival U18 Rytas Vilnius 92-79 in the first-place game to book its ticket back to the ANGT Finals. Kerr Kriisa (189-G-01) scored 27 points with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals for host Zalgiris, which finished third at the ANGT Kaunas last season after tournament wins in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Gabrielius Celka (197-F-01) chipped in 17 points and Laurynas Vaistaras and Edgaras Preibys (199-C-02) both scored 11 points as Zalgiris claimed the third ticket the ANGT Finals at the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, in May following ANGT Valencia winner U18 Valencia Basket and ANGT Munich winner U18 Real Madrid. Rytas, which won the ANGT Kaunas last season en route to the title at the ANGT Finals, was missing leader Marek Blazevic, who could not play with an injury. Daniel Baslyk (195-F-01) tried to pick up the slack with 23 points and Azoulas Tubelis collected 15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 5 blocks. But it was not enough. Rytas head coach Arvydas Gronskis was forced to start Matas Macijauskas (206-C-02) in place of Blazevic, and after Adas Simonis (192-G-01) started the scoring with a three-pointer for Rytas, Zalgiris reeled off a 9-2 run with 5 points from Celka to lead 9-5. The hosts kept Rytas scoreless for 3:33 minutes and pulled ahead 14-7. Rytas could not gain ground and trailed 20-12 after 10 minutes. Laurynas Vaistaras picked up 5 points for Zalgiris and Baslyk tried to keep Rytas close with 5 points at 29-21. Kriisa took over with 12 points - including 2 three-pointers - as the Zalgiris advantage swelled to 41-25. Rytas fought back in the final two minutes with scores from Augustas Marciulionis (188-G-02) in a 0-7 spurt to trail 41-32 at the break. Baslyk scored three baskets to try to keep Rytas close at 48-38. But Kriisa nailed another three and completed an and-one and Gytis Macionis (194-G-01) had a three-point play of his own as the cushion swelled to 59-42. Rytas managed to reel off 6 straight points and appeared close to cutting the deficit to single digits at 62-51, but Zalgiris punched back with 6 consecutive points and led 68-54 after 30 minutes. Preibys scored 5 points as Zalgiris continued to keep Rytas at bay 81-62. Rytas tried one more push with 8 straight points - 5 of them from Tubelis - to trim the gap to 81-70. Madrid triumphs at ANGT Munich for second straight year - Jan 27, 2019
U18 Real Madrid won the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament Munich for the second consecutive season by routing U18 Maccabi Teddy Tel Aviv 58-96 in the first-place game. The victory gave Los Blancos their sixth straight ticket to the ANGT Finals. Usman Garuba (202-C-02) led the way with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and Kareem Queeley (193-F-01) added 15 points and 7 rebounds for Madrid, which joined U18 Valencia Basket in the eight-team field at the ANGT Finals at the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Finals Four in Vitoria-Gasteiz in May. Valencia won the ANGT Valencia. After not competing in the ANGT last season, Maccabi finished second in Munich for its best result at a qualifying tournament. Maccabi missed a chance to return to the ANGT Finals for the first time since 2006-07. Deni Avdija (205-G-01) collected 18 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists in the loss. Earlier Sunday, U18 Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt grabbed third place by defeating U18 ratiopharm Ulm 86-61. Len Schoormann led the way with 16 points for Skyliners, which completed its best result in an ANGT tournament. Aleksa Bulajic (194-G-02) scored 22 points for Ulm. U18 FC Bayern Munich finished fifth place after knocking off U18 ALBA Berlin 94-62. Filip Skubalj paced Bayern with 16 points and Noah Jallow added 13. Ben Lingk was the leading scorer for ALBA with 18 points and 8 rebounds. And U18 Partizan NIS Belgrade secured seventh place by defeating U18 Panathinaikos OPAP Athens 77-62 for its first win of the event. Djordje Pazin (195-G-01) scored 22 points with 4 three-pointers while Dusan Tanaskovic (208-C-01, agency: BeoBasket) picked up 18 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks in the victory. Valencia take ANGT Valencia title, secure first trip to ANGT Finals - Dec 31, 2018
U18 Valencia Basket reached the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament Finals for the first time in club history by winning the ANGT Qualifier Valencia with an 82-71 victory over U18 Virtus Bologna. The host side Valencia got 20 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals from Marc Garcia (187-G-01), while Alejandro Ruiz (195-F-02) scored 14 points, Alonso Faure had 12 and Alfonso Ribera (202-C-01) chipped in 9 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. Valencia, which did not lose a game in the tournament, was playing in the competition for just the third time following the 2007-08 and 2009-10 seasons. The victory guaranteed Valencia a spot at the ANGT Finals at the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four in May in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Virtus was hindered by its 22 turnovers. Gabriele Procida (195-G-02) led the way in defeat with 20 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals and Matteo Nicoli (193-G-01) added 20 points. Lorenzo Deri (188-G-01) netted 14 points and 6 assists, but big man Gora Camara was held to just 8 points and 8 rebounds and fouled out having played just 19 minutes. In front of a crowd of about 1,600 fans at Pabellon Fuente de San Luis, Virtus struggled to get into any offensive rhythm as it made just 1 of its first 8 shots while Garcia scored 4 points for a 7-2 Valencia lead. Garcia added a three-pointer and Faure completed a three-point play among his 7 points in opening a 19-5 cushion. The first quarter ended with Valencia ahead 19-6 and having held Virtus to just 2-of-14 shooting from the field to go with 9 turnovers. Nicoli started the second quarter hot with a steal and dunk and then a jumper to make it 19-10. Valencia punched right back with back-to-back three-pointers from Garcia and Alejandro Requena (188-G-01). The cushion was 29-15 before Deri got hot with three baskets and Virtus closed the gap to 29-25. Valencia, however, got a triple from Guillem Ferrando and a three-point play from Ruiz to lead 37-29 at halftime. Valencia pushed the gap to 43-31 and it was 45-35 when Camara picked up two fouls within 12 seconds for 4 fouls with 7 minutes left in the third quarter. Nicoli finally hit Virtus's first three-pointer and another Nicoli score trimmed the deficit to 47-42. Valencia continued to fight and share the ball on offense and Ivan Cubero's putback made it 56-46. The score was 58-47 going into the final 10 minutes. Camara picked up his fifth foul with 8:24 minutes left in the game and Virtus down 62-51. Deri responded with 5 quick points and the gap was down to 64-56. Valencia would not break with Garcia hitting two baskets to make it 68-58. And even after threes from Nicoli and Procida, Ruiz hit from outside and Millan Jimenez converted a three-point play to make it 79-67 with under 2 minutes to go to secure the title for the home side.
