Real Madrid wins back-to-back titles!-May 26, 2024
Real defended its ANGT title and made it a record five trophies by fending off a valiant effort from PFBB in an 85-84 victory in overtime. The Spanish powerhouse added the trophy to the ones in 2015, 2019, 2021 and 2023 - now two more than the club with the second most titles: U18 CSKA Moscow. Egor Demin (200-G-2006) led Real with 26 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks while Hugo Gonzalez (198-G-2006) added 23 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals and Mitar Bosnjakovic (200-SF-2006) chipped in 18 points - 16 of them coming in the second half and overtime. For PFBB, Jonas Boulefaa (203-SF-2007) scored 23 points, Nolan Traore (193-PG-2006) collected 18 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. PFBB’s star Nolan Traore picked up a second foul at the 4:30 minute mark in the first quarter with Real up 9-8. The Gonzalez-Demin tandem scored all 18 points and the Real lead was 18-12. Talis Soulhac (186-PG-2006) did a good job replacing Traore and helped tie the game 20-20 after 10 minutes. Traore came back on combined with Nathan Soliman (195-SF-2009) to push the lead to 24-30. And PFBB was up 39-44 at the break. Jonas Boulefaa helped PFBB extend the lead to the biggest of the game at seven points - 46-53. Real fought back and tied the game 54-54 but then watched PFBB pull back ahead 56-60 after three quarters. Neither side could pull away at all in the final period and Hugo Yimga Moukouri converted a three-point play with 26 seconds left. Gonzalez would not let his team lose with a three-pointer with 20 seconds left and the game went to overtime. There were 8 lead changes in the final 3 plus minutes in overtime before Declan Duru (202-F-2007) flew in for a three-point play to make it 83-81 with 34 seconds to play. PFBB wasn’t done with a corner three from Boulefaa with only 18 seconds to play and an 83-84 cushion. Ismaila Diagne (212-C-2006) was fouled with 11 seconds left and calmly made both foul shots and Real was back ahead 85-84. And Real was the champion after Traore was off-target. Hugo Gonzalez of Real was named the MVP of the ANGT Finals The Spaniard was joined on the All-Tournament Team by PFBB's Nolan Traore, Kasparas Jakucionis (196-G/F-2006) of U18 FC Barclona, Jack Kayil (191-PG-2006) from U18 Mega MIS Belgrade and Parker Robinson (193-SG-2006) of U18 Overtime Elite.
