Regular Season Round 1: EWE Baskets - Sevilla 77-85

EWE Baskets were not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Sevilla 85-77 on Wednesday night. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But EWE Baskets won third quarter 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sevilla dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to EWE Baskets' 28 and made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded EWE Baskets 37-25 including a 32-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for guard Alex Urtasun (193-84) who helped to win the game recording 16 points. American guard Xavier Thames (191-91, college: San Diego St.) contributed with 11 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Five Sevilla players scored in double figures. Serbian power forward Nemanja Aleksandrov (210-87) answered with 22 points and American point guard Julius Jenkins (187-81, college: Georgia South) added 17 points in the effort for EWE Baskets. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sevilla will face Spirou Charleroi at home in the next round. EWE Baskets will play against CEZ Nymburk and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
