Hapoel Jerusalem was not able to use a home court advantage and was edged by the opponent from Volgograd 79-78 on Wednesday night. Hapoel Jerusalem was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 9-point lead after three quarters before a 21-11 charge of Krasny Oktyabr, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American guard Bernard King (196-81, college: Texas A&M) had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import swingman D.J. Kennedy (198-89, college: St.John's) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Krasny Oktyabr's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American point guard Derwin Kitchen (194-86, college: Florida St.) responded with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Krasny Oktyabr will face Lietuvos rytas in Vilnius in the next round. Hapoel Jerusalem will play at home against Partizan.
