Regular Season Round 3: Zenit - VEF Riga 84-70

There was a minor upset in Saint Petersburg where Latvian VEF Riga (1-2) was defeated by Russian Zenit (1-2) 84-70 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Zenit. VEF Riga was better in fourth quarter 23-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Zenit forced 20 VEF Riga turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. VEF Riga was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Canadian power forward Kyle Landry (207-86, college: N.Arizona) who scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. U.S. Virgin Islands-Puerto Rican point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Mareks Mejeris (208-91, agency: Players Group) who recorded 14 points and 7 rebounds and American point guard Gerald Robinson (185-89, college: Georgia) added 17 points respectively. Zenit will face Un.Olimpija in Ljubljana in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. VEF Riga will play on the road against Besiktas in Istanbul and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
