But Ventspils were not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Karsiyaka 81-72 on Wednesday night. Ventspils trailed by 13 points at halftime and as many as 19 after three quarters before a 22-12 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 72-81 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was Colombian-Spanish power forward Juan Palacios (206-85) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. American Kenny Gabriel (209-89, college: Auburn) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Mire Chatman (187-78, college: UTPA) who recorded 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Artis Ate (192-89) added 11 points respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Karsiyaka will face Stelmet in Zielona Gora in the next round. Ventspils will play at home against PAOK and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
