Regular Season Round 6: VEF Riga - Khimky 79-86

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Latvian VEF Riga (1-5) was defeated at home by third ranked Russian Khimky (4-2) 86-79 on Wednesday. VEF Riga trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 25-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 79-86 at the end of the game. Khimky had a 31-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Khimky made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American-Montenegrin point guard Tyrese Rice (185-87, college: Boston Coll., agency: Priority Sports) who scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Finnish point guard Petteri Koponen (194-88) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Ronalds Zakis (207-87) who recorded 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Ingus Jakovics (186-93, college: Liepaja-2) added 17 points respectively.
