Regular Season Round 6: Buducnost - Ventspils 87-69

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Podgorica where one of their biggest challengers Latvian Ventspils (2-4) were defeated by fifth ranked Montenegrin Buducnost (2-4) 87-69 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 87-69. Buducnost dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Ventspils' 24. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Ventspils' players. The best player for the winners was American-Montenegrin point guard Omar-Sharif Cook (186-82, college: St.John's, agency: Beo Basket) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 assists. Vladimir Dasic (207-88) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. Five Buducnost players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Mire Chatman (187-78, college: UTPA, agency: Higher Vision Sports) who recorded 9 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Maris Gulbis (200-85, agency: Players Group) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Ventspils' coach rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Defending Montenegrin champion moved-up to fourth place in Group F, which they share with defeated Ventspils. Buducnost will face higher ranked Karsiyaka on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Ventspils will play against the league's leader Lokomotiv and hope to win that game.
