Regular Season Round 6: Ploiesti - Krasny Oktyabr 79-96

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Romanian Ploiesti (3-3) against fourth ranked Russian Krasny Oktyabr (3-3) on Wednesday night. Host Ploiesti was defeated by Krasny Oktyabr in Ploiesti 96-79. It looked good early as Ploiesti took an 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Krasny Oktyabr had a 31-18 second period charge getting the lead and Ploiesti was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 79-96. They outrebounded Ploiesti 36-25 including a 27-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. Krasny Oktyabr shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. American Romeo Travis (201-84, college: Akron) notched a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import point guard Randy Culpepper (182-89, college: UTEP) supported him with 23 points. Even 19 points and 5 rebounds by Ghanian guard Alhaji Mohammed (192-81, college: Louisville, agency: Higher Vision Sports) did not help to save the game for Ploiesti. American point guard Dee Brown (185-84, college: Illinois, agency: Priority Sports) added 11 points and 8 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Krasny Oktyabr moved-up to third place in Group E, which they share with defeated Ploiesti. Krasny Oktyabr's next round opponent will be Hapoel Jerusalem at home. Ploiesti will play against the league's leader Lietuvos rytas in Vilnius and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
