Regular Season Round 7: EWE Baskets - CEZ Nymburk 84-71

There was a minor upset when much higher ranked Czech CEZ Nymburk (4-3) lost to fifth ranked German EWE Baskets (2-5) in Oldenburg 71-84 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by EWE Baskets. CEZ Nymburk was better in third quarter 15-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded CEZ Nymburk 35-18 including a 27-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian power forward Nemanja Aleksandrov (210-87) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). American point guard Casper Ware (178-90, college: Long Beach St.) contributed with 24 points for the winners. EWE Baskets' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American Derek Raivio (190-84, college: Gonzaga) answered with 16 points and Jiri Welsch (199-80) added 10 points and 5 assists in the effort for CEZ Nymburk. EWE Baskets maintains fifth place in Group C with 2-5 record, which they share with Spirou. Defending Czech champion CEZ Nymburk keeps the second position with three games lost. EWE Baskets will face higher ranked Sluc Nancy (#3) at home in the next round. CEZ Nymburk will play against Spirou Charleroi and hope to win that game.
