Regular Season Round 7: Khimky - Un.Olimpija 105-77

Russian Khimky and 3rd placed Slovenian Un.Olimpija had identical 4-2 record. This time Khimky used a home court advantage and outplayed the opponent from Ljubljana 105-77 on Wednesday night. The game was mostly controlled by Khimky. Un.Olimpija was better in second period 32-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Khimky dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Un.Olimpija's 30. Khimky forced 19 Un.Olimpija turnovers and outrebounded them 36-25 including 23 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Croatian point guard Marko Popovic (185-82, college: S.Idaho JC, agency: Alti Sport) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 7 assists. American forward James Augustine (208-84, college: Illinois, agency: Priority Sports) contributed with 16 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Khimky players scored in double figures. Khimky's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Montenegrin-American forward Halil Kanacevic (203-91, college: St.Joseph's) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and guard Klemen Prepelic (191-92) added 24 points and 5 assists in the effort for Un.Olimpija. Khimky maintains second place in Group D with 5-2 record behind leader Strasbourg. Un.Olimpija at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. Khimky will face league's leader Besiktas in Istanbul in the next round. Un.Olimpija will play at home against Szolnok and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
