Regular Season Round 7: Banvit BK - Partizan 90-85 OT

Fifth-ranked Serbian Partizan (1-6) was very close to win a game against second ranked Turkish Banvit BK (6-1) in Balikesir on Wednesday. Banvit BK managed to secure only five-point victory 90-85. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime then Partizan managed to tie the game at the end of regular time. However that was Banvit BK who were better in overtime eventually winning that period 7-2. They made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. Partizan was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Bulgarian point guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Dominican-American guard Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul) contributed with 17 points and 6 assists (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. Banvit BK's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Milenko Tepic (202-87, agency: Beo Basket) answered with 21 points and 7 rebounds and center Djorde Gagic (210-90, agency: Interperformances) added 10 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Partizan. Five Banvit BK and four Partizan players scored in double figures. They have a solid series of three victories in a row. Banvit BK keeps a position of Group E leader, which they share with Lietuvos rytas. Defending Serbian champion Partizan dropped to the bottom place with six games lost. Banvit BK will face Ploiesti (#4) on the road in the next round. Partizan will play against Hapoel Jerusalem and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
