Regular Season Round 8: Karsiyaka - Ventspils 71-67

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Turkish Karsiyaka (6-2) won against at home 5th ranked Latvian Ventspils (2-6) 71-67 on Wednesday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-12. But Ventspils won second period 20-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Karsiyaka won last quarter 17-14. Worth to mention a great performance of Colombian-Spanish power forward Juan Palacios (206-85) who helped to win the game recording 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and American guard Jon Diebler (198-88, college: Ohio St.) who added 17 points during the contest. American point guard Mire Chatman (187-78, college: UTPA, agency: Higher Vision Sports) responded with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Davis Lejasmeiers (192-91) scored 9 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Karsiyaka have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position in Group F with 6-2 record behind leader Strasbourg. Ventspils lost third consecutive game. Defending Latvian champion keep the fifth place with six games lost. Karsiyaka will face bottom-ranked Stelmet (#6) in Zielona Gora in the next round. Ventspils will play on the road against PAOK in Thessaloniki.
