There was a minor upset when top-ranked Turkish Banvit BK (6-2) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Romanian Ploiesti (4-4) 84-74 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Ploiesti. Banvit BK was better in third quarter 15-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Banvit BK 32-21 including 22 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Dee Brown (185-84, college: Illinois, agency: Priority Sports) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Lithuanian guard Marius Runkauskas (189-86) who added 22 points during the contest. Four Ploiesti players scored in double figures. American-Azerbaijani center Charles Davis (205-84, college: Alabama) responded with 18 points and Dominican-American guard Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Banvit BK's coach let to play ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending Romanian champion maintains fourth position in Group E with 4-4 record. Loser Banvit BK still keeps top place with two games lost. Ploiesti will face Hapoel Jerusalem (#5) on the road in the next round. Banvit BK will play against the league's leader Lietuvos rytas (#1).
