Regular Season Round 8: Un.Olimpija - Szolnok 89-67

Rather expected game in Ljubljana where 5th ranked Hungarian Szolnok (2-6) was crushed by third ranked Slovenian Un.Olimpija (5-3) 89-67 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Un.Olimpija. Szolnok was better in third quarter 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Szolnok was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian point guard Marko Marinovic (183-83) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 7 assists and center Alen Omic (217-92) who added 13 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Un.Olimpija's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Serbian guard Stefan Sinovec (195-88, agency: Beo Basket) responded with 13 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Krisztian Wittmann (184-85) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Five Un.Olimpija and four Szolnok players scored in double figures. Un.Olimpija maintains third position in Group D with 5-3 record having just two points less than leader Strasbourg. Defending Hungarian champion Szolnok keeps the fifth place with six games lost. Un.Olimpija will face Zenit (#4) in Saint Petersburg in the next round. Szolnok will play at home against the group's leader Khimky and hope to win that game.
