Regular Season Round 9: Zenit - Un.Olimpija 75-74

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Saint Petersburg where fourth ranked Russian Zenit (5-4) edged 3rd placed Slovenian Un.Olimpija (5-4) 75-74 on Wednesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Un.Olimpija won third quarter 16-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Un.Olimpija outrebounded Zenit 39-25 including 16 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was point guard Artem Vikhrov (196-92, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) who scored 20 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Serbian power forward Dejan Borovnjak (207-86, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was center Alen Omic (217-92) who recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds and Serbian point guard Marko Marinovic (183-83) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Four Un.Olimpija players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Zenit moved-up to third place in Group D, which they share with defeated Un.Olimpija. Zenit will face Khimky on the road in the next round. Un.Olimpija will play against VEF Riga and hope to win that game.
