Regular Season Round 9: Spirou - EWE Baskets 62-75

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 5th ranked Belgian Spirou Charleroi (3-6) was defeated at home by sixth ranked German EWE Baskets (3-6) 75-62 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by EWE Baskets. Spirou Charleroi was better in fourth quarter 22-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American swingman Rickey Paulding (196-82, college: Missouri) who scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Casper Ware (178-90, college: Long Beach St.) chipped in 11 points. Five EWE Baskets players scored in double figures. EWE Baskets' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Jamaican center Torin Francis (210-83, college: Notre Dame) who recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and American-Bulgarian point guard Andre Collins (183-82, college: Loyola, MD) added 17 points respectively. EWE Baskets moved-up to fifth place in Group C, which they share with Spirou. EWE Baskets will face league's leader Acea in Roma in the next round. Spirou Charleroi will play on the road against Sluc Nancy (#3) and hope to win that game.
