The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Croatian Cedevita as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Group I. Cedevita edged top-ranked Italian Virtus Acea in Zagreb 91-90 in overtime. It was a key game for the top position in Group I. The hosts were tied after three quarters and then recorded another tie at the end of regular time. They eventually won an overtime period 9-8. Cedevita dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Virtus Acea's 20 and made 25-of-31 charity shots (80.6 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Virtus Acea 49-21 including a 18-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Virtus Acea was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by center Miro Bilan (213-89) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and Bosnian-Croatian center Stanko Barac (216-86) supported him with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Cedevita's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 27 points and 4 steals by Croatian point guard Rok Stipcevic (185-86, agency: Alti Sport) did not help to save the game for Virtus Acea. American guard Brandon Triche (193-91, college: Syracuse) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Five Cedevita and four Virtus Acea players scored in double figures. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Virtus Acea at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. They share the position with Krasny Oktyabr. Just two games before the end of Second Stage and it may be the most important game of the season next round when Virtus Acea faces strong Krasny Oktyabr trying to get back on the winning streak. Cedevita will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked CAI Zaragoza on the road.
