Second Stage Round 5: Khimky - AV Cantu 75-62

Not a big story in a game when 3rd placed Italian AV Cantu (2-3) was defeated on the road by first ranked Russian Khimky (4-1) 75-62 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Khimky. AV Cantu was better in fourth quarter 24-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding AV Cantu to just 7 points in third quarter. Khimky looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by AV Cantu's players. The best player for the winners was American-Montenegrin point guard Tyrese Rice (185-87, college: Boston Coll.) who scored 13 points and 8 assists. American center Paul Davis (211-84, college: Michigan St.) chipped in 14 points. Khimky's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Darius Johnson-Odom (187-89, college: Marquette) produced 23 points and 5 rebounds and Dominican-American guard James Feldeine (193-88, college: Quinnipiac) added 15 points respectively for the guests. Khimky have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group J with 4-1 record. Loser AV Cantu keeps the third position with three games lost. Khimky will face league's second-placed Limoges CSP Elite on the road in the next round. AV Cantu will play against PAOK and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
