Regular Season Round 2: Banvit BK - Unics 79-85
Date: October 21, 2015
There was no surprise in Balikesir where Turkish Banvit BK (0-2) was defeated by Russian Unics Kazan (2-0) 85-79 on Wednesday. Banvit BK trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 29-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 79-85 at the end of the game. Strangely Banvit BK outrebounded Unics Kazan 37-24 including a 17-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Unics Kazan especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. The best player for the winners was Spanish point guard Joaquin Colom (188-88, college: Forca Lleida, agency: Interperformances) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 assists. American-Turkish Keith Langford (193-83, college: Kansas) chipped in 23 points. American-Polish guard A.J. Slaughter (191-87, college: W.Kentucky, agency: Beo Basket) produced 29 points and American point guard Courtney Fortson (180-88, college: Arkansas, agency: Three Eye Sports) added 13 points and 5 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Banvit BK's coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Unics Kazan will face Aris in Thessaloniki in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Banvit BK will play on the road against Steaua CSM (#3) in Bucuresti and hope to win that game.
