Regular Season Round 4: N.Novgorod - Neptunas 78-82

There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Lithuanian Neptunas (2-2) won against on the road much higher ranked Russian BC Nizhny Novgorod (2-2) 82-78 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 12 points after three quarters before their 31-15 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Neptunas made 27-of-30 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. BC Nizhny Novgorod was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Arnas Butkevicius (197-92) who helped to win the game recording 12 points and forward Donatas Zavackas (203-80, college: Pittsburgh) who added 8 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: Beo Basket) responded with 24 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) and American forward Victor Rudd (206-91, college: S.Florida) scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Neptunas moved-up to second place in Group F, which they share with AEK Athens and N.Novgorod. Neptunas will face league's second-placed AEK Athens at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. BC Nizhny Novgorod will play against the league's leader Galatasaray in Istanbul and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
