Regular Season Round 5: Unics - Trabzonspor 78-64

The game had a very big importance for fourth-ranked Russian Unics Kazan as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Group D. Unics Kazan defeated leader Turkish Trabzonspor at home 78-64. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Trabzonspor. It was a key game for the top position in Group D. It looked good early as Trabzonspor took a 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Unics Kazan had a 19-10 second period charge getting the lead and Trabzonspor was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 64-78. Unics Kazan dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Trabzonspor's 24. American forward Latavius Williams (202-91, agency: Beo Basket) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Spanish point guard Joaquin Colom (188-88, college: Forca Lleida, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Four Unics Kazan players scored in double figures. Serbian forward Novica Velickovic (205-86, agency: Beo Basket) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and Croatian-Bosnian center Andrija Stipanovic (209-86, agency: Beo Basket) added 16 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Trabzonspor. Trabzonspor's coach rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Aris and Trabzonspor. Trabzonspor will play next round against strong Aris trying to get back on the winning streak. Unics Kazan will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Steaua CSM at Bucuresti.
