Regular Season Round 5: Un.Olimpija - EWE Baskets 81-82

Date: November 11, 2015
There was a minor upset in Ljubljana where 3rd placed Slovenian Un.Olimpija (2-3) was edged by sixth ranked German EWE Baskets (2-3) 82-81 on Wednesday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-16. But Un.Olimpija won second period 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. EWE Baskets looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American center Brian Qvale (210-88, college: Montana, agency: Pensack Sports) who scored 21 points (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!). His fellow American import Vaughn Duggins (190-87, college: Wright St.) chipped in 19 points. Latvian power forward Ronalds Zakis (207-87) produced 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and American-Bosnian guard Zack Wright (191-85, college: Central Mo.) added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Four Un.Olimpija players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. EWE Baskets moved-up to fourth place in Group A, which they share with Telekom Bsk. EWE Baskets will face Telekom Baskets (#4) in Bonn in the next round. Un.Olimpija will play on the road against the league's leader Dolomiti En. TR in Trento and hope to win that game.
