Regular Season Round 7: Unics - Banvit BK 78-69

Everything went according to plan when second ranked Russian Unics Kazan (5-2) beat at home 4th placed Turkish Banvit BK (3-4) 78-69 on Wednesday. Banvit BK trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 19-15 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 69-78 at the end of the game. Unics Kazan made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for Spanish point guard Joaquin Colom (188-88, college: Forca Lleida, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Belarusian center Artsiom Parakhouski (211-87, college: Radford) helped adding 11 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side American point guard Courtney Fortson (180-88, college: Arkansas, agency: Three Eye Sports) responded with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and Slovenian center Gasper Vidmar (211-87) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Banvit BK's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Unics Kazan have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of Group D leader. Loser Banvit BK dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. Unics Kazan will face league's second-placed Aris in Thessaloniki in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Banvit BK will play at home against Steaua CSM and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
