Regular Season Round 8: Telekom Bsk - Un.Olimpija 88-93

There was no surprise in Bonn where 6th ranked German Telekom Baskets (2-6) were defeated by fourth ranked Slovenian Un.Olimpija (4-4) 93-88 on Wednesday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-15. But Telekom Baskets won second period 28-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Un.Olimpija won last quarter 24-21. They made 26-of-34 free shots (76.5 percent) during the game. Telekom Baskets were plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Serbian Sava Lesic (205-88, agency: Beo Basket) who scored 24 points and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Miha Lapornik (192-93, agency: PEPI SPORT) chipped in 13 points and 4 assists. Four Un.Olimpija players scored in double figures. Un.Olimpija's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Lithuanian forward Tadas Klimavicius (204-82) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds and American point guard Eugene Lawrence (184-86, college: St.John's) added 9 points and 6 assists respectively for the hosts. Un.Olimpija moved-up to third place in Group A. Telekom Baskets lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with six games lost. Un.Olimpija will face league's leader Bilbao Basket at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Telekom Baskets will play against the league's second-placed Dolomiti En. TR (#2) in Trento and hope to win that game.
