Regular Season Round 8: Krasny Oktyabr - Neptunas 74-97

Everything went according to plan in Volgograd where third ranked Lithuanian Neptunas (5-3) outleveled bottom-ranked Russian Krasny Oktyabr (1-7) 97-74 on Wednesday. The game without a history. Neptunas led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Krasny Oktyabr's 28 and made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Neptunas forced 19 Krasny Oktyabr turnovers. The best player for the winners was center Vytautas Sarakauskas (205-82) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Mindaugas Girdziunas (188-89) chipped in 19 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Four Neptunas players scored in double figures. Neptunas' coach felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Ukrainian forward Maks Adam Konate (200-91) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds and guard Vasili Zavoruev (197-87, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) added 20 points respectively for the hosts. Neptunas have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place in Group F, which they share with N.Novgorod. Krasny Oktyabr lost seventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Neptunas will face BC Nizhny Novgorod (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Krasny Oktyabr will play against the league's leader Galatasaray in Istanbul and hope to win that game.
