Regular Season Round 9: Ratiopharm - CAI Zaragoza 81-84

A very close game took place in Ulm between Spanish CAI Zaragoza and German ratiopharm Ulm. Second ranked CAI Zaragoza (6-3) got a very close victory on the road over 4th placed ratiopharm Ulm (3-6). CAI Zaragoza managed to escape with a 3-point win 84-81 on Wednesday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-16. But ratiopharm Ulm won second period 32-26. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when CAI Zaragoza won last quarter 20-18. They made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. CAI Zaragoza outrebounded ratiopharm Ulm 30-19 including 20 on the defensive glass. American-Jamaican guard Sek Henry (193-87, college: Nebraska) nailed 21 points and 5 assists for the winning side and forward Pere Tomas (202-89) accounted for 10 points and 8 rebounds. CAI Zaragoza's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American power forward Raymar Morgan (202-88, college: Michigan St.) came up with 16 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Per Guenther (185-88) added 11 points and 11 assists respectively for ratiopharm Ulm in the defeat. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. CAI Zaragoza maintains second place in Group C with 6-3 record having just -15 point less than leader Bilbao Basket. ratiopharm Ulm lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with six games lost. They share it with Spirou. CAI Zaragoza will meet at home Umana Venezia (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. ratiopharm Ulm will play against Sluc Nancy and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
