Regular Season Round 9: Umana VE - Valencia 58-62

Everything went according to plan when leader Spanish Valencia Basket (9-0) defeated on the road 3rd placed Italian Umana Venezia (4-5) 62-58 on Wednesday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 19-9. But Umana Venezia won second period 17-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Valencia Basket won last quarter 17-14. It was a good game for Montenegrin Bojan Dubljevic (205-91, agency: Beo Basket) who led his team to a victory with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Serbian Vladimir Lucic (202-89, agency: Beo Basket) contributed with 8 points for the winners. American point guard Phil Goss (188-83, college: Drexel) answered with 12 points and Croatian forward Hrvoje Peric (203-85) added 10 points in the effort for Umana Venezia. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Valencia Basket have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group C with 9-0 record. Umana Venezia at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Valencia Basket will face Spirou Charleroi (#5) at home in the next round. Umana Venezia will play against the league's second-placed CAI Zaragoza and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
