Regular Season Round 1: Olympiacos - Yakin Dogu BGD 53-55

An interesting game took place in Ellinikou where Turkish Yakin Dogu BGD (1-0) edged by two points Greek Olympiacos Pireus (0-1) 55-53 on Thursday night. Olympiacos Pireus were very close to get their first win. But it seems they have to wait a little bit longer. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Yakin Dogu BGD made 17-of-18 free shots (94.4 percent) during the game. Yakin Dogu BGD outrebounded Olympiacos Pireus 43-22 including a 36-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. American-Turkish center Quanitra Hollingsworth (196-88, college: VCU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws) for the winners and forward Bahar Caglar (186-88) chipped in 4 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side forward Evanthia Maltsi (180-78, agency: Josep and Nicolas) responded with 19 points and 4 assists and American forward Lykendra Johnson (185-89, college: Michigan St.) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Olympiacos Pireus' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Yakin Dogu BGD will meet at home Good Angels in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Olympiacos Pireus will play against Miskolc and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
