Regular Season Round 8: Khimky - ALBA 88-77

An interesting game for Russian Khimky (5-2) which hosted in Khimky 3rd ranked German ALBA Berlin (3-4). First ranked Khimky managed to get a 11-point victory 88-77. ALBA Berlin was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Khimky made 20-of-26 charity shots (76.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 ALBA Berlin turnovers and outrebounded them 34-16 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Khimky players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by ALBA Berlin helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was forward Stanislav Ilnitskiy (200-94, agency: Alti Sport) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. American point guard Markel Brown (191-92, college: Oklahoma St.) chipped in 19 points. Four Khimky players scored in double figures. Bosnian center Elmedin Kikanovic (211-88, agency: BeoBasket) produced 22 points and 5 rebounds and American Dominique Johnson (192-87, college: Azusa Pacific, agency: Higher Vision Sports) added 18 points, 5 assists and 4 steals respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Khimky maintains first position in Group B with 5-2 record. ALBA Berlin lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. Khimky will have a break next round. ALBA Berlin will play on the road against the league's second-placed Lietuvos rytas (#2) in Vilnius and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
