Second Stage Round 4: Lietuvos rytas - N.Novgorod 99-73

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Russian BC Nizhny Novgorod (1-3) against fourth ranked Lithuanian Lietuvos rytas (2-2) on Wednesday night. Visiting BC Nizhny Novgorod was crushed by Lietuvos rytas in Vilnius 99-73. It was a key game for the second position in Group G. The game was mostly controlled by Lietuvos rytas. BC Nizhny Novgorod was better in third quarter 25-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lietuvos rytas dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to BC Nizhny Novgorod's 32. Lietuvos rytas players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. It was a very good performance for American forward Drew Gordon (205-90, college: N.Mexico) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Forward Laimonas Kisielius (203-85, college: William & Mary) contributed with 24 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winners. Petr Gubanov (206-87, agency: Alti Sport) replied with 17 points and 5 rebounds and American guard DeAndre Kane (193-89, college: Iowa St., agency: BeoBasket) added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for BC Nizhny Novgorod. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lietuvos rytas moved-up to second place in Group G, which they share with Zenit. BC Nizhny Novgorod lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. Lietuvos rytas' next round opponent will be league's leader Hapoel Jerusalem on the road and it will be for sure the game of the week. BC Nizhny Novgorod will play against the league's second-placed Zenit in Saint Petersburg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
