Second Stage Round 5: Valencia - Cedevita 71-58

Rather expected game when 4th placed Croatian Cedevita (1-4) was defeated on the road by leader Spanish Valencia Basket (5-0) 71-58 on Tuesday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 71-58. Valencia Basket dominated on the defensive end, holding Cedevita to just 7 points in fourth quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Cedevita's 36. The best player for the winners was Montenegrin Bojan Dubljevic (205-91, agency: BeoBasket) who scored 8 points and 10 rebounds. Power forward Pierre Oriola (206-92) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Center Miro Bilan (213-89, agency: BeoBasket) produced 17 points and 9 rebounds and American-Lithuanian forward John Shurna (204-90, college: Northwestern) added 14 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Valencia Basket. They maintain first place in Group H with 5-0 record. Defending Croatian champion Cedevita dropped to the third position with four games lost. Valencia Basket will face ALBA Berlin (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Cedevita will play against the league's second-placed Unicaja Malaga and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
