Regular Season Round 1: Gernika - Girona 57-81

Gernika was smashed by the opponent from Girona 81-57 on Wednesday night. The game was mostly controlled by Argon Uni Girona. Gernika was better in fourth quarter 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Gernika to just 6 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Gernika 37-24 including 22 on the defensive glass. Brazilian center Nadia Colhado (193-89, agency: ProDep Management) fired a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Nuria Martinez (175-84) chipped in 15 points. Four Argon Uni Girona players scored in double figures. Russian forward Marina Bas (194-85) produced 18 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Maria Pina (187-87) added 15 points respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Argon Uni Girona will face Basket Landes in Mont de Marsan in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gernika will play on the road against Cegledi EKK and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
