Regular Season Round 2: Basket Gdynia - Istanbul Univ. 84-52

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when Turkish Istanbul Uni (1-1) was outleveled on the road by Polish Basket Gdynia (1-1) 84-52 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Basket Gdynia. Istanbul Uni was better in second period 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Istanbul Uni to just 4 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Istanbul Uni 37-20 including a 29-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Basket Gdynia especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Latvian center Kristine Vitola (193-91, college: UTEP) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. American-Lithuanian forward Sofija Aleksandravicius (192-91, college: Davidson, agency: LBM Management) contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Basket Gdynia players scored in double figures. Coach 's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Romanian forward Claudia Pop (182-89, agency: ProDep Management) replied with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and American Ifunanya Ibekwe (187-89, college: Arizona) added 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals in the effort for Istanbul Uni. Basket Gdynia will face Abdullah Gul (#4) in Kayseri in the next round. Istanbul Uni will play on the road against Sleza Wroclaw and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
