There was no surprise in Gorzow Wlkp. where 4th ranked Polish AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski (0-4) was crushed by bottom-ranked Greek Olympiacos (3-1) 85-56 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 85-56. Olympiacos forced 22 AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American power forward Victoria Macaulay (193-90, college: Temple, agency: Two Points) fired 24 points for the winners. Forward Styliani Kaltsidou (188-83, agency: ProDep Management) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Olympiacos' coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American center Carolyn Swords (198-89, college: Boston Coll., agency: LBM Management) produced 14 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and her fellow American import guard Miah Spencer (173-94, college: N.Carolina St., agency: Interperformances) added 9 points and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Defending Greek champion maintains second position in Group A with 3-1 record having just seven point less than leader Angels. Loser AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski still closes the standings with four games lost. Olympiacos will face Besiktas (#3) in Istanbul in the next round, which may be the game of the day.
