Regular Season Round 5: Zenit - Tofas 84-82

The biggest surprise took place in Saint Petersburg where host Russian Zenit (3-2) edged league's leader Turkish Tofas (3-2) 84-82 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Tofas. It was a key game for the top position in Group D. The hosts trailed by 10 points after three quarters before their 23-11 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Zenit outrebounded Tofas 39-25 including a 17-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American-Slovakian guard Kyle Kuric (193-89, college: Louisville) who scored 27 points and 6 rebounds. American forward Drew Gordon (206-90, college: N.Mexico) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. Point guard Baris Ermis (194-85) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 12 assists and 4 steals and American power forward Raymar Morgan (203-88, college: Michigan St.) added 17 points respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Zenit keeps a position of Group D leader, which they share with Tofas and Gran Canaria. Tofas will play next round against ratiopharm Ulm trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Zenit will try to continue on its current victory against first ranked Gran Canaria in Las Palmas.
