Regular Season Round 5: Unics - Fiat TO 101-93

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Italian Fiat TO (3-2) against fourth ranked Russian Unics Kazan (3-2) on Wednesday night. Visiting Fiat TO was defeated by Unics Kazan in a tough game in Kazan 93-101. It was a key game for the second position in Group A. Fiat TO trailed by 14 points at halftime and as many as 17 after three quarters before a 24-15 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 93-101 at the end of the game. Unics Kazan looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Spanish guard Joaquin Colom (188-88, college: Forca Lleida, agency: Interperformances) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 assists for the winners and Gabonese forward Stephane Lasme (203-82, college: Massachusetts) chipped in 24 points and 11 rebounds. American swingman Lamar Patterson (196-91, college: Pittsburgh, agency: Pensack Sports) responded with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import point guard Diante Garrett (196-88, college: Iowa St.) scored 16 points and 8 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Fiat TO's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Unics Kazan moved-up to second place in Group A. Unics Kazan will meet at home bottom-ranked Andorra (#5) in the next round. Fiat TO will play against Cedevita and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
