Regular Season Round 5: Energa Torun - Piestanske C. 66-48

There was a minor upset when second-ranked Slovakian Piestanske C. (2-3) lost on the road to bottom-ranked Polish Energa Torun (2-3) 66-48 on Wednesday. It was a key game for the second position in Group D. The game was mostly controlled by Energa Torun. Piestanske C. was better in second period 18-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Piestanske C. to just 6 points in fourth quarter. They outrebounded Piestanske C. 36-19 including a 30-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Energa Torun looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Piestanske C.'s players. American center Kelley Cain (198-89, college: Tennessee) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Australian guard Lauren Mansfield (170-89, college: Iowa St., agency: ProDep Management) contributed with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Terezia Palenikova (178-95) answered with 15 points and American center Jenna Smith (191-88, college: Illinois, agency: Two Points) added 8 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Piestanske C.Piestanske C.'s coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Energa Torun moved-up to second place in Group D, which they share with defeated Piestanske C. Energa Torun will face league's leader Hatay on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Piestanske C. will play against Sf.Gheorghe in Sfantu Gheorghe and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
