Regular Season Round 5: Istanbul Univ. - Basket Gdynia 72-104

An interesting game was also a 32-point tough home defeat of 4th ranked Turkish Istanbul Uni in a game versus Polish Basket Gdynia (#3) 104-72. The game without a history. Basket Gdynia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Basket Gdynia outrebounded Istanbul Uni 52-20 including a 18-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Istanbul Uni's players. American forward Kahleah Copper (185-94, college: Rutgers, agency: LBM Management) nailed 31 points (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winning side and her fellow American import guard Victoria Jankoska (174-94, college: Michigan St.) accounted for 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Five Basket Gdynia players scored in double figures. Basket Gdynia's coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Romanian forward Claudia Pop (182-89, agency: ProDep Management) came up with 30 points and 5 rebounds and center Ilayda Guner (186-99, agency: LBM Management) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Istanbul Uni in the defeat. Basket Gdynia (2-3) moved-up to second place in Group E, which they share with Abdullah Gul. Istanbul Uni lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with four games lost. Basket Gdynia will meet at home league's second-placed Abdullah Gul in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Istanbul Uni will play against the league's leader Sleza Wroclaw and hope to win that game.
