Regular Season Round 9: Lietkabelis - Galatasaray 77-84

There was a minor upset when second-best Lithuanian Lietkabelis (4-5) lost to fourth ranked Turkish Galatasaray (4-5) in Panevezys 77-84 on Tuesday. It was a key game for the second position in Group B. Lietkabelis trailed by 12 points at halftime and as many as 13 after three quarters before a 20-14 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 77-84 at the end of the game. Galatasaray looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for American-FYR Macedonian center Richard Hendrix (203-86, college: Alabama, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) who led his team to a victory with 13 points and 7 rebounds. American-Bosnian point guard Alex Renfroe (191-86, college: Belmont, agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 15 points and 4 assists for the winners. Four Galatasaray players scored in double figures. Center Ksistof Lavrinovic (209-79) answered with 24 points and 7 rebounds and Adas Juskevicius (194-89) added 14 points in the effort for Lietkabelis. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Galatasaray moved-up to second place in Group B, which they share with Buducnost. Galatasaray will face Hapoel Jerusalem (#6) at home in the next round. Lietkabelis will play against Buducnost in Podgorica and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
