Regular Season Round 9: Unics - Cedevita 78-61

The game between closely ranked teams ended with second ranked Russian Unics Kazan's (6-3) home victory over 3rd placed Croatian Cedevita (4-5) 78-61 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Unics Kazan. Cedevita was better in second period 23-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Unics Kazan dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Cedevita's 24. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Unics Kazan made 7 blocks. It was a good game for Gabonese forward Stephane Lasme (203-82, college: Massachusetts) who led his team to a victory with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Spanish guard Joaquin Colom (188-88, college: Forca Lleida, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 16 points and 6 assists for the winners. Four Unics Kazan players scored in double figures. American point guard Will Cherry (185-91, college: Montana) answered with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Bosnian Dzanan Musa (200-99, agency: BeoBasket) added 13 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Cedevita. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Unics Kazan maintains second place in Group A with 6-3 record behind leader Darussafaka. Defending Croatian champion Cedevita dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Unics Kazan will face Fiat TO (#3) in Torino in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Cedevita will play at home against Paris-Levallois and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
