There was a minor upset when German Deutsche Bank Skyliners (1-1) were outleveled on the road by Spanish Unicaja Malaga (1-1) 91-64 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Unicaja Malaga. Deutsche Bank Skyliners was better in third quarter 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Unicaja Malaga made 25-of-31 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game, while Deutsche Bank Skyliners only scored one point from the stripe. They outrebounded Deutsche Bank Skyliners 36-19 including a 25-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Unicaja Malaga looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Deutsche Bank Skyliners were plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. Canadian forward Kyle Wiltjer (208-92, college: Gonzaga) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Carlos Suarez (203-86, agency: Court Side) contributed with 5 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Canadian Brady Heslip (188-90, college: Baylor) replied with 20 points and center Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottermann (208-90) added 10 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Deutsche Bank Skyliners. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Unicaja Malaga will face Mornar Bar (#4) on the road in the next round. Deutsche Bank Skyliners will play against Rytas in Vilnius and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
