Date: November 7, 2018
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Spanish Unicaja Malaga as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Group D. Unicaja Malaga smashed 4th ranked Lithuanian Rytas at home 95-76. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Rytas. Rytas were ahead by 5 points at the halftime before a 52-28 second half run of Unicaja Malaga. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Rytas to just 7 points in third quarter. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Rytas' players. Georgian center Giorgi Shermadini (217-89) notched 23 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and French center Mathias Lessort (206-95, agency: BeoBasket) supported him with 18 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Even 15 points and 4 assists by American DJ Seeley (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) did not help to save the game for Rytas. Forward Eimantas Bendzius (204-90) added 11 points. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Unics. Rytas at the other side keep the fourth place with three games lost. Rytas will play next round against strong Unics Kazan trying to get back on the winning streak. Unicaja Malaga will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Deutsche Bank Skyliners at Frankfurt.
