Regular Season Round 3: Uniao Sportiva - Gernika 54-65

No shocking result in a game in Ponta Delgada where Spanish Gernika (2-1) defeated Portuguese Uniao Sportiva (0-3) 65-54 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Gernika. Uniao Sportiva was better in third quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Uniao Sportiva to just 7 points in fourth quarter. The best player for the winners was American Margaret Roundtree (183-88, college: Gardner-Webb, agency: ProDep Management) who scored 23 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Ukrainian center Valeriya Berezhynska (193-86, college: Rice, agency: ProDep Management) chipped in 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Roundtree is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Gernika players scored in double figures. Gernika's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Brazilian forward Raphaella Monteiro (181-95) who recorded 10 points and 9 rebounds and Danish guard Anna Seilund (175-93, college: USF) added 11 points and 4 assists respectively. Gernika will face Argon Uni Girona at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Uniao Sportiva will play against UNI Gyor and hopes to get finally their first victory.
